Possibly the attachment is corrupt or has a virus or you don't have the software needed to open it.

We need more info.

There are two things to try:

Save the attachment on your desktop. Open the application (for example, Adobe Reader), and then drag the attachment from your desktop into the application. It should open up.

You may also try uninstalling and re-installing the applications. During the installation process, you may be asked whether the application should be the default application to open documents with a certain extension. Answer yes to any such questions.

What kind of attachment is it? You can always do a web search for the file extension to see what programs open it up. There are many sites out there that should be able to help you.

Try saving it on your desktop and then opening it. Since it is happening even on adobe, its not the office suite alone. The prob has to be you email client, the account configured it or the pc itself. Try creating a new profile/identity and send yourself an attachment and see it that works.
