No I don't believe he would send us to hell forever. I believe hell is what you make of it. It might not necessarily be the Devil, with a fire pit and demons and so forth, but rather a state of mind where you are lost in your most horrible thoughts. God will make you search yourself for a while and then bring you into his kingdom when you are ready.
That's what I believe anyway

This old question. Here we go.
Basically, the "christian" idea of Hell was invented to browbeat the ignorant peasants into doing whatever the authorities wanted. But it also functions as a sort of revenge-fantasy for those peasants, as we see on these boards - if you don't group-think with the rest of us, you'll burn in hell.
For all the people who say "God doesn't make you rebel - it's your choice" - well, God created you and knew which choices you'd make from eternity, so He must have created you with the express intention of watching you fail at His commandments, after which He can toss you into the Pit for the entertainment value of it, apparently.
If you say "the Devil makes you sin," then, obviously, who created the Devil? Same argument as above. If there is any kind of "rebellion," God Himself must have planted the seed, so the whole thing becomes a puppet-show with God the Sadist at the strings.

It makes no logical sense.
Accept as axiomic:
A1. Finite beings can have only finite effects.
A2. People are finite.
A3. There is a deity.
A4. The most basic form of justice is "The punishment must fit the crime."
Accept as definition:
D1. Sin is an offense to deity.
Then:
Assume a person is punished in hell for all eternity. We will prove a contradiction.
Suppose the existence of a person who commites one grevious sin every milisecond of his life. This is a finite number of sins, each with a finite effect. (A2 -> A1).
A finite number of effects, each finite, is a finite total. (mathematic principle).
Such a person goes to hell for all eternity. This is eternal punishment either in duration or intensity.
The person is punished infinitely for a finite total effect. This is a contradiction.
Hell can be infinite in neither duration nor intensity.

Why go that for? If God is all powerful why did He have this problem of people going astray? Why could he not create perfect people? There would have been no necessity for Hell at all. Even so, if He is all merciful, why does He punish so severely- Hell for Eternity? As enlightened people of 21St century we have to think logically and separate grain from chaff. You will see who is manupulating you and for what reasons?

You send yourself to hell for eternity, not God. Hell is eternal separation from God. If you refuse to be disiplined as a daughter, then you are not His child.
The Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes those he accepts as his children. As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Whoever heard of a child who was never disciplined?
If God doesn't discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children after all.

John 3:16 in the Bible says the following:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him, might (will)
be saved. He that believeth in the Son of God hath life, but He that believeth not hath not life (eternal) because he hath not believed in the only begotten Son of God.
He really for a fact loves us, so much, that he of His own volition lay down His life as a sacrifice for us. If we reject Christ, then we have made the decision of our free will to go to hell, because the issue is that He offers salvation to anyone who will believe on Him. So a better question to settle is this: Trust Him as your Savior, if you have not, and then you will spend eternity in Heaven. Hell was first made for the devil and his angels. It is not
God's will that any should perish. So give your life today, and do not delay. He will not in any wise cast out any who repent. Prayers and Joy to you.

God is not just a God of Love but also one of JUSTICE..do you suppose that a JUST God should turn his face to all of the immoral behavior of his children?...I think that disobedience deserves punishment. We put criminals in jail and sometimes even to death because of crimes and no one ever questions is that right or wrong...because we know that it is right to punish the unlawful..why is it that people question God who not only sees the sins but also the motives behind them..surely he has the right and obligation to judge the wicked!

I believe in God, and I think that God gives us what we really deserve. If perfect, we go to Heaven. If we've got human faults, then we go to Purgatory. And quite honestly, I think you're got to be a terrible person who sees no wrong in their actions to go to Hell. I mean, if you're really sorry, he'll forgive you. That's what he does.

God told us how to avoid spending eternity in the Lake of Fire(which is not hell, for even death and hell are cast into that Lake), and if we each choose to not obey Him, then it is our fault not God's fault.
