$3000 US? That's a lot of money in Trinidad. A return airfare ticket from the US typically costs less $1000, and accommodation for two weeks should also be about that much. Of course I don't where in the world you'll be flying in from so that could be a moot point.

Anyway, I think this question is really more about relationships than about Trinidad, it's the same question one would ask if a guy offered to pay for anything, and honestly $3000 is a pretty big anything.

What's the relationship between you and this friend like? If you're not already romantically involved you have to consider the notion that for that much money he probably wants to be a bit more than a handshake and peck on the cheek buddy. And even if you are involved, do you feel comfortable being indebted to someone for that amount of money?

I think perhaps that's the more important discussion to have upfront, although it is an uncomfortable subject to broach.

With that out of the way, a couple suggestions if you do decide to take him up on the offer. Tell him that you would like to pay part of the cost, as much as you can afford, and even offer to treat it as a loan that you can pay off either the traditional way over time, or perhaps by reciprocating the gesture if he ever visits your hometown - you don't necessarily have to pay his airfare but maybe offer him a place to stay?

And if you do come, no matter how close the relationship between you is, ensure that you do have some spending money of your own, and means of contacting your relatives at home. A calling card or something.

Lastly, if or when you do make it to Trinidad, enjoy it! And I second Mersani's comment - make sure you get to Tobago too, budget-permitting.

All the best.
