I did after my 2nd child. After the first 2 months, it eventually went away. I was told that it was hormone related and there wasn't anything that could be done about it. Take care!

Right after I gave birth to my son I broke out in hives. My hands and wrists swelled up so bad they actually blistered. I had to wear gloves and long sleeves so I could hold the baby. I practically lived on Benadryl, but even that didn't stop the itching totally. It took a couple of weeks to stop, and then it came back again two months later, but finally went away a few weeks after that. It was awful!

And for the record, I wasn't really breastfeeding; he didn't take to it, so we were bottle feeding.

I had an allergic reaction - post delivery - to the stuff in the epidural & they ended up giving me IV benadryl for it. I haven't
ever heard of anyone experiencing hives as a side-effect of nursing; you need to ask if you can put cortisone cream on them so they will shrink, not itch, & you can feel better!! Your pediatrician or ob/gyn should be able to tell you - or call the hospital where you delivered & ask for their lactation consultant; most likely they can tell you everything you need to know! Good luck & Congratulations!!!!

Ive known women who got hives during the first trimester from the hormones. And ive heard of breast feeding women who did also.

Usually its the stress and hormones and it passes on its own.

I got hives during my pregnancy for no apparent reason. My doctor said to take benadryl which I did reluctantly but it worked and there were no negative repercussions on me or my child as far as I can tell. Ask your doctor before taking anything for them though.

Are you on any medications? I got hives post-partum because I was on phenobarbitol for high blood pressure.

If you are on any meds, stop them immediately.

This Doctor says it could be from either an allergic reaction to your breast milk or the fact that you're not emptying out enough. I'm not an expert. But here's her advice on it.
