You can get a 'bullet' with Alt+0149. Hold down the Alt key and type the mumerals on the keypad. Then take your finger off the Alt key. (NOTE that there is no 'Insert Symbol' in Excel as there is in Word. If you are familiar with the function in Word, you could also place the character in a Word document and copy and paste it into Excel.)

Format the cell so that the bullet is centred both horizontally and vertically.

The way to find any special character is with Character Map. The quickest way to get that is to go to Start, Run and type in 'charmap' (without the quotes) and press Enter. If you use characters from the Symbol font, you will have to format the cell to use the Symbol font. A bullet, however, is available as I described in Arial Unicode.

Go to Insert > Symbol. Look in the General Punctuation section. Find the dot and select it. Once it is in your cell, highlight it and select a larger point size. Now you have your dot. Just copy it and paste to every other cell you want it on.

there's no simple way to to reference an excel file from another one. try one of these options: * when working on your file, have the data file open in the background * just copy the data, if it's not changing * set the data file as a "ODBC data source" on your computer. this way you can refresh the sum formula each time you open the file and on request. hardest to do, but it's the way to do it.
