I am a vegetarian and have been for about 15 years. I am 31 and became a vegetarian in high school. There are several things that you can use to replace your meat habit. Many grocery stores now have a "vegetarian" frozen section. In that section, there are burgers, chicken patties, hot dogs, and chicken strips that are totally made out of tofu. They taste great, have a lot of protein, and are low in fat. Some of the items are also vegan. Morningstar, Boca, and Quorn are just a few brands that carry those type of things but are vegetarian or vegan. Another substitute you can use is tofu itself. It can be found in the fresh vegetables in the refrigerated section. Tofu can be marinated, fried, and baked. Several restaurants have also substituted veggie burgers for regular burgers or have tofu dishes in place of chicken. Depending on your area, an organic food store is a great place to find vegetarian foods. Several brands of cereals have protein available now with a great taste! Kashi's Go Lean has 13g of protein per serving. Eating a lot of soy protein, legumes, and other sources of protein (i.e. yogurt, etc.) is the key. Being a vegetarian is easy and fun. I hope this helps!!

Good for you! I've been a vegetarian for 17 years. It's very easy.

I use seitan (made from wheat gluten - sounds weird but it's yummy!) a lot to replace meat. Morningstar Farms makes good beef-tasting and (kinda) chicken-tasting seitan. My favorite chicken replacement is made by Veat, though. They are both frozen products. Tofu can be used to replace meat in some recipes. There are always veggie burgers, too.

There is a good cookbook that has recipes using meat replacers. It's called the Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes Cookbook. I also really like the Moosewood Low-Fat Cookbook.

Of course, there are lots of recipes that don't require any meat substitutes.

I am a Vegetarian my self.

The most important thing is that you eat a variety of foods. Most important is to have the levels of vitamins, minerals and body requirments.

Today there are a lot of things that can be used to substitute meat.

For me it worked really good to increase the level of vegetables and decrease the level of meat over a month or two. It helps your body adapt for the new change.
Here there are a lot of good and interesting recepies you cann try. http://www.fatfree.com/cgi-bin/recipes.cgi

My only problem is that there aren't much places offering vegetarian meals. I am currently living in Germany, and either i havent't as yet found these places, or there are so few of them or i don't know.

If you live alone, it is good, as it will not bother those around you.

This site is also good and have some interesting information

Animals have the right live on this planet (a beautiful planet I might add) as humans. What gives humans the right to make everything to fit his/her convenience?.

You are on the right track. What is vegetarianism?. Anything that is not coming from an animal or a by-product of an animal. All vegetables fall in this category. We have variety galore. Your body will love you for it.

Read, understand and practice veg. This may not be the answer you are looking for. You may be looking for an easy quick solution. Sorry, none exist.

Do it right. It is like anything else - knowledge is power. Do not plunge into something because it is the fashionable thing to do. If it suits you, then that's what you want.

The girl who says "you don't eat anything that comes from an animal" is wrong. She's thinking of "vegan." "Vegetarians" sometimes eat eggs and milk, etc, even fish in some cases.

Anyway, to replace meat you can try the various soy-based products like BocaBurgers or Smart Dogs, although they tend to be loaded with sodium. The important thing is to supplement the protein and other nutrients your body needs and won't get from just vegetables.

I don't personally recommend vegetarianism, simply because humans really aren't vegetarian by nature. You have to trick out your diet in all sorts of ways to make vegetarianism work - especially the more hardcore forms like veganism. I understand people's objections to the way meat is typically processed - it really IS disgusting - but there are alternatives in organically-raised meats etc that don't involve trying to completely cut out meat from your diet.

Vegetarians are not stupid. It is purely a choice of what they do and do not want to eat! If you don't like tomatoes you don't eat them...same goes for Veggies, if you don't like meat don't eat it. Some Vegetarians don't eat meat out of principal but again that is up to them. Are we no longer permitted to express our views or tastes?
Anyway. Quorn is a good substitute and contains a good source of protein.
Ive been veggie for 10 years now (sice i was 13) and i never had a problem finding something to eat. there is plenty out there in the supermarkets xx

If you have a meat habit? don't become a vegetarian, nothing can replace it, but it you want to live on tofu and nut's, I wish you the best of luck, I tried that year's ago and it just made me bad tempered.

Do some research online. Make sure you get protein from other sources if you are going to abstain from meat. I'm sure there are tons of resources online for info on vegetarianism and recipes/meal plans.

How funny.... "I would like to become a vegetarian and do not know anything about it"

This raises a few questions....

How do you know you want to be one if you know nothing?
How could you even ask the question if you don't know what it is?
How will you replace the protein in your diet?
How can you give up meat when it tastes so nice?
Do you consider vegetarianism to be a trend or fashion accessory?

Give me strength.... please tell me you are a scool-child and not a tax paying/voting adult!

Tyhe Vegetarian Society has loads of information for people thinking about eating less meat. I think the website is vegsoc (or something like that!) - just google them and you will find them. Well done to you!
