What and/or how much should I expect to recieve for financial Aid. I am also a military veteran that kind of got messed out of my GI bill, and a "single" parent we are not married so thats what I had to put. I plan on doing a distance learning program that I can do online at home, still full time but then I can stay home with my daughter. Any idea?

The 0 EFC means that you will be eligible for the maximum in your Pell Grant, in addition to any student loans you will be offered. You should call your school to find out what you need to complete your financial aid file. Additionally, you should ask for if they have any additional grants available.

You can begin searching for scholarships at www.fastweb.com, this is a free national scholarship search. You should also check your school's financial aid website for any scholarships they may have posted.

Getting an EFC of zero is very good news. It means the school will try to package you for full COA (cost of attendance). Generally with a zero efc you will recieve the full Pell Grant, which is just over four thousand dollars. Having a low expected family contribution or none (as you have) also means that you will qualify for state and federal need based aid programs-- in possible addition to Perkins loans, and of course the Stafford loans. Hopefully though you won't have to borrow much if the Pell grant and other state programs will cover your costs. Congratulations!

Mine was 0 too...its based on the income from the prev year tax return. I was filing independent for the first time, and the year before i barely worked (in college). That just means they arent expecting you to contrinute anything towards tuition, so in other words you will need enough to financial aid to cover the whole cost of your school. If you are in undergrad, you will probably get some grants (money you dont have to pay back) as well as loans. If you are a grad student, you arent eligible for grants.

First of all, how can you get messed out of your GI Bill. You are automatically enrolled when you enlist.

Seeing a EFC of 0 is strange; however if accurate, you can expect to receive a Pell Grant, subsidized and unsubsidized loans that will cover all your expenses.

***to the poster above, The EFC is a calculation that the federal government uses to determine how much the applicant should be able to contribute to his own education.

Expected Family Contribution is their way of asking how much do you think your family is going to give you toward school expenses. If you don't think they're going to give you anything, then put 0. That won't make you get less financial aid; it'll probably make you get more.
