Are there any ways to save a buck? I was quoted $1,500 for my 17 yr old daughter who uses my car as a "part time" driver till she's 18.

Her grades are average B and most companies want a B+ or A for a real discount. I'm not worried about that so much. She took the 6hr drivers ed so that helps save a bit.

Is there anything else I'm over looking?

Unfortunately, with only one vehicle, the rating automatically goes on the worst driver. If she has a B average, and no tickets or accidents so far, you should still be in pretty good shape. Typically, insuring your home and auto through the same company should get you a discount. Just shop around. American Family, and Farmers are pretty good with youthful drivers. Farmers uses credit scoring, so if you have a good risk score you could save considerably. American Family is the only insurance company in the industry that doesn't use risk scoring yet, that will happen next year. Happy hunting.

We just went through that. Although my husband and I had great driving records, they wanted to more than double our insurance when our daughter got her license a few weeks ago. We ended up talking to Brian at Response Insurance. We actually are now paying less per half for the exact same amount of insurance and our daughter on the policy. We couldn't believe it! Check them out and Good Luck!

Other than shopping around, no. This is a normal part of the process. Until your daughter is around 25 her rates will be high.
