This is my first speeding ticket ever in MA and due to mis-mailing to wrong address etc, it is almost 1 yr now since it was issued. Do you think the cop is going to show up to the hearing? This was a totally inadvertent speeding. Was passing in the left lane and didn't realize the speed hiking up so much! Soon as I saw the speed I was going at, I started slowing down but the cop showed up in an unidentified car behind me. Would it be worth it to tell the truth? Any pointers would be appreciated.

Yes, always tell the truth, show remorse, and tell the judge you will be more careful in similar circumstances in the future.

The truth will be appreciated by the courts. TOO often they have people not telling the truth in courts, and what ends up happening is that they get nailed worse than they realized because the courts/judges know they are lying. They are trained to know this, and so many people do it that they can tell the liars easily from the truth tellers.

Make sure to stress the fact that the Miss-mailings, etc. were not your fault, but appologize for the inadvertant speeding, and explain what happened.

GOOD LUCK.

If the officer is still in the same force, yes he/she will show up.
Speeding is speeding. As the driver it is your responsibility to know what speed you are going at all times. Always tell the truth, they have hearings all the time, they will know if you are lying.

Just tell them exactly what happened and take the fine.

Regardless of passing or not, you still know you have to watch your speed and you didn't. Your bad, your fine.
