As a Dad, I would pick up my baby and hold and comfort her until she stopped crying. Then I would look at the tongue. If it is only bruised and not cut (bleeding), give her something cold to help reduce the swelling and some Tylenol to decrease pain. If it is cut, look to see if the cut is gaping open or if it is essentially closed together. I have only had to put stitches in a few tongues over the last 25 years so it is very unlikely to be required even if cut. If you still have any question about what to do call your child's doctor.

Ironically, the same thing happened to my son yesterday. I took him to the emergency room due to excessive bleeding, the doctor suggested that we feed him almost anything cold (i.e. ice cream & popsicles), she also suggested that due to mouth being one of the most common areas for building bacteria she prescribe antibiotic just in case a infection started to grow as well as a pain killer. It is very important that although your child refuses to eat due to pain/fear you must keep he/she hydrated! Very important even if it takes her 30 minutes to drink a cup of juice, have patience and deal with it. She also advised us to monitor his progress with the healing process for about a few days. If you noticed that a week or two have passed and it hasn't healed then I strongly suggest you take her to a doctor ASAP. Hope that helped! Good Luck! :)

Ice, Ice cream, or very cold fluids would be a start. A little tylenol will help with the pain.
If she stays fussy for quite a while, call your doctor's office.

Just give it time to heal, tongue doesn't need any special treatment. In the meantime, give her easy to swallow food like porridge so that she wouldn't bite her tongue again when its healing.

Mouth cells regenerate fairly quickly. For the time being, suck on some ice.
