You might want to try Kent. Herne Bay and the surrounds are close enough for a week end break. The B&B's in the area are really good, and the stately homes are fantastic this time of year with the foilage changes. The coast has some really good seafood resturants for those romantic dinners and there is always the beach for an evenings walk.

depends if budget is an issue...within an hour or two of london there are lots of options. Historical towns like Oxford and Bath have some lovely romantic hotels or by the sea in some windswept corner of Kent or East Anglia could be lovely. If you have loads of money then Burgh Island is a bit further, but amazing.

How about Bath? There's Roman Baths and everything. Or perhaps the Lake District if you want to get back to nature.
