Do you think that sometimes even though we dont' intend to make the same mistakes our parents did we inadvertently find ourselves doing it? Do you overcompensate for your children by making sure they have everything you didn't and then some?? Are you more lenient? Are you a passive parent???

I am a mother of 2 (grown now), but I found myself sometimes saying "God, I sound just like my mother", which wasn't always a bad thing she was an excellent mother, but the one thing I always did with my children that she didn't always do was listen when they talk. No matter how unimportant it was, just listen in case they say something you really need to hear.

I am raising my children way different than I was raised. I was around alcohol and drugs for most of my life. I think that is the biggest change. We also bounced around alot and I am not moving around alot. One thing that I do just like my parents is not spend enough time with my children. I work nights so it is hard to spend much time with them. I am very strict to a point like no talking back and being direspectful but otherwise I am very easy going!

Completely the opposite of how I was raised and it has worked so well. I used to overcompensate but learned how to stop.
I am lenient, have few rules. I am not passive; I am involved and open--my kids know they can talk to me. I couldn't talk to my parents.
