Some airlines have around the world tickets. Here is a site that will help make planning your trip easier. http://www.airtreks.com/
What you see and where you visit depends on how much time you have and how much money you can spend. What you want to do is make a list of the 4 most important places you want to go, and then add the next 4 that you'd like to see (even if you have unlimited time and money this is still a good idea). Then go to airtreks and see how long and how much your first 4 choices will take/cost you. If you still have time/money left over, add the next 4...and then if you still have time/money left over, you can include other destinations.
Good luck! A friend and I planned a 9 week trip through Australia and New Zealand and it took quiet a bit of time and thought. Get started right now as you want to get the cheapest air fare possible!
Good luck and have a great trip!

You can go via LA, so could do an internal flight there to S America then go from LA to the Far East as Ive done this. Not sure about India though, but pretty sure you must be able to fly there on route back to UK. Depends what type of ticket you have.

I wld suggest starting in the south of South America as it will be summer there and places like Patagonia are best seen in December to February. Chile is a great place to start as it is friendly, safe and places like Torres del Paine national park in the south are simply stunning. Also see active volcanoes you can climb in Pucon / Valdivia. Other places to visit in Chile include San Pedro de Atacama in the north (valle del la luna, geysers de Tatio, salt lakes), Lauca national park (inland from Arica at altitude near the Bolivian border).

What is your last statement all about. You will give advice on what exactly.

It can be more interesting to see places by land rather than flying everywhere. you will miss out on alot. You should consider
trains buses and rentals. But not sure how much time you have for your trip.

Burma and The Philippines eh?
First one oppresses its population and the second is rife with Islamic terrorists outside of Manila!
Why not call in at Afghanistan on the way, i hear that`s "lively" at the moment?
Nice to see your doing your research before you go?

Well, give the way this has to go, then maybe plan it so you are in Thailand in December. Start somewhere and plan ahead.
