Here I go again, correction the morons who don't have a clue....and don't want to research their answers. They enjoy having me point out their stupidity I guess.

You listening Joe S and doyaliket...

The Fair Credit Reporting Act says that debts can only be listed on your credit report for 7 years, beginning on the date of the delinquency. PERIOD! They can NOT be relisted. This is called re-aging the debt and they can be sued for $1000 if they are caught doing it.

You are also most likely over the statute of limitations on this debt. If you have not paid anything on the debt for sevral years, you should be safe.

See the link below for more info.

If this was a bad credit, it should not be back on your report.

Beware, there is something going on now where collection agencies are "buying" old debts for a few pennies on the dollar and trying to "resurrect" them. Some people who don't know any better will pay these "debts" off because they are trying to get or keep their credit in good standing. If it has been 7 years, and if this wasn't on your last report, (you do know that you can get a free copy of your report once a year) I don't believe that it can be placed BACK into your report.

This can not be put as a new entry on your CR. If this is reported the agency is liable. However, if you haven't paid, then you still owe, there is no getting away from that fact. You can settle your debt, but it is not illegal for them to call you. However, they are not able to threaten you with actions that can't be taken if you debt is passed the statue of limitations.

Read up on the laws if you feel you are being harassed. And if you still owe the money, settled the debt, keep all the docs that show it was paid, and take a deep breath... you did the right thing.

Good luck to you.

That's almost ten years ago, if you see the item on your credit report again at this point (they are probably just now reporting it) dispute it with ALL 3 bureaus. You can do this on most of their websites but you may have to purchase an on-line copy of your report from them.

Ask the credit bureau.

yes it stays on for seven years and at the end of that seven years they can let it fall off your credit report or they can re-report it and it will stay on for another seven years.

Wrte to them and dispute it. Chances are, it'll be dropped and will improve your credit report (score). That's what happened to me.

If you still owe them money, yes they can.
