Ground beef and various pasta... I could write a book on "101 ways to make ground beef" and you just have to buy "medium", not lean; the fat comes out in the cooking if you do it right. You could use Campbell's soups to make sauces for your pasta. I know all of this, because in my much younger days, I lived in a financial situation where I had to save on food (and other things). Some ideas: (1) Meatballs with egg noodles in a cream of chicken soup, (2) Meatloaf with cream of mushroom sauce over penne noodles, (3) Cooked ground beef tossed with shell pasta and tomato soup. Use your own herbs and create.

There's a lifestyle craze sweeping the nation Urban foraging! Deli's, restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and sandwich shops chuck away mountains of perfectly good food every day. The pickings are so rich that even those who can afford to shop inside these establishments, are increasingly choosing to loiter around back by the bins, (even though it's technically illegal)! You can eat like a king, everything you need for a balanced diet.

Hamburger and chicken are your cheapest meats....you can do a lot with either.
Beans are very good for you....they are cheap and provide lots of nutrition.
Only buy fresh fruits and veggies that are in season....that means they are usually on sale...or buy cheap storebrand canned goods.
Soups and stews go a long way.
If you have to live on a budget you learn how to eat well without spending a fortune on food.
Most of all....plan your meals a week ahead.....based on sales....that really helps you save a lot.

Buy a bag of potatoes. You can make many different meals with them. Cooking from scratch is a lot cheaper than packaged foods.

Beans, rice, pasta, and for some flavor drop by any local or franchise restaurant, they provide free water, salt, ketchup, sugar and pepper, sometimes hot sauce. If not, peanut butter sandwiches and orange juice.

I lived off Ramen, mac & cheese and tuna for months when I was younger. It sucked, but at least I had food!

Well, there has been a time when I would get a couple dollars in veggies(celery, carrots, onion or what ever and mixed with top ramon. Same with mac and cheese. Do you have a food bank in you area? Use your imagination.
