I'm looking for an honest answer, hopefully from a hair stylist or someone in the business, who is not trying to sell me anything... Is there really a difference between the hair products sold in salons (more expensive, "salon quality" type of products) and the ones you can buy in your local drug store/target/etc? Everytime I go to get my hair done, my stylist trys to sell me some new product or shampoo (I know they make money this way) and tells me that the ones I am using are "awful" for my hair, and will strip it of it's color, and life and body and make it drier and the ends frizzier, blah blah blah. So I'm wondering if they do this just to make a sale, or is it really the truth? Please fess up!!

I am a hairstylist, I'm not a seller in my salon. If your hair feels dry or lifeless and it feels like there is a build up on it, I would say yes to your question. But now you can get nexxus products in some dept. stores. But I always tell my clients, If its not broke don't fix it. Use what you want. You get what you pay for.

Ok your answer is any product you buy in the store contains more water than the ones in the salon. You sometimes see the same products in a store that are at a salon and they actually are not the same because if you read the back of any of them typically sold at a salon it tells you that they do not garauntee this product unless sold at a salon. They have been watered down if they are being sold at a store other than a salon. The water drys out your hair folicles. You can use Pantene to strip wax from your floor! yuck.
