It is a must in Islam, but I cannot understand why it annoys people, it is freedom of choice and freedom of religion, as said in the earlier posts : I don't see anybody complaining about nuns what they wear and how they live their life.
Hijab is a nice decent thing, why is women walking half naked in the street are never mentioned and the woman who decides to be decent and wears the hijab is a different matter?
I'm talking about the head cover and not the face cover which is not Obligatory in Islam it is only tradition.

It is religious belief just like praying and fasting..if you see the drawings of virgin Mary you will see her putting a veil..And the ones who are doing the propaganda are those who offend Hijab not those who defend it..Muslim women wear Hijab because they want to wear it and the personal freedom as claimed in the west should let them put on whatever they want..Just like giving women the freedom of taking off their clothes give them the freedom to cover themselves..if you don't then this is double standard!

Hijab is not only a Muslim thing, and the proof of that is you see nuns covering up their hair, but they dont call this Hijab.
Women in Islam are respected, believe me, don't depend on the media, you have to see for yourself

I personally don't believe that it's compulsory in islam but many women do and many, many choose to wear it. Why not just respect their choices?
I believe in dressing conservatively but I won't go berate a girl for wearing something tight or revealing.
Besides, I don't think any negative attitude of muslims towards women is linked to islam. It's rooted in cultural attitudes in some islamic countries pre-dating Islam.

i am Muslim who was blessed by wearing it , its obligatory in Islam but we wear it CZ we wanna obey Allah ad we love to follow our religion teachings
an why would anyone get upset when Muslims wear hijab ,its their own choice , why anyone would care ? does it hurt them to see Muslim women wear hijab ?
nun cover their heads too ,why no one call them to take it off or say they are oppressed .
western countries claim they have democracy and freedom , so why preventing Muslim women from practicing very essential part in their beliefs

There no religion or culture give the women what Islam has given….
She is well protected in Islam, and Hijap is the evidence how this religion has protected here…..
Just you think about it, who care his people more: somebody tells you to go naked in the street let every body to enjoy your beauty…
And the other tells you cover your beauty and don't allow any body other than your husband to enjoy it…

The first rule of hijab has been derived from the following passages of the Qur'an: "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigor, or children who know naught of women's nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed." (24:31)
The second rule of hijab, according to Muhammad Nasiruddin al-Albani's research, is that hijab in itself should not be a source of attraction. It should not become a display of finery referred to in the Qur'an as 'tabarruj': "Stay in your homes and do not display your finery as women used to do in the days of Jahiliyah (period before Islam). Attend to your prayers, give alms to the poor, and obey God and His Messenger, God only wishes to remove uncleanliness from you (members of the family), and to purify you." ( 33:33 )

from my understanding "Hijab" merely means "Modest Dress"
nothing wrong with that.
its only problematic, like pretty much everything else in the world... is only really that much of a problem when its in an extreme.
Eye candy is great and all... but aren't there more important things?

Why should it bother you? It is a requirement of Muslim women-the Qur'an requires it. Do you complain about the Orthodox Jewish women who cover their hair with hats, snoods, or a wig? Do you complain about Nuns who cover their heads? Or, about Pentecostal women who never cut their hair and wear it in ''beehives''? The list could go on and on.
If a woman's religion requires such a thing-----------there is nothing wrong with it.
