There is a 2 1/2 year old boy at my daughter's day care who consistantly arrives and leaves in vehicles without carseats. This has been going on at least two weeks. (Probably longer, but now we have a similar schedule, so that's how long I have been witnessing it.) I have brought it up to his teachers and the director, but nothing has been done. It may be a money issue with the parents, but that is not an excuse - there are plenty of places and people in our area who can help out... the day care itself is run through a church. As a parent and a teacher I cannot continue to ignore this.
What would you do now?

Call social services. Also would you really want someone watching your child that doesn't care about the welfare of another child?

Talk to the parents first and ask if there is a problem with them getting car seats for the children. If there is then tell them that you will see what you can do. Talk to the teachers and directors about having a fund raiser or special collection to buy the car seats for the children. Calling the authorities will only put financial further burden on the parents resulting in fewer meals or less care for them. People these days are always to apprehensive when it comes to dealing directly with the other people. I always accomplish more by talking to someone than by calling the authorities which most often are just a ball of bureaucratic red tape.

Has anyone talked to the parents? The director can try that, but I would REPORT IT to a Child Protective Agency NOW! Before the kid gets thrown through the windshield. Christian forbearance and charity ( ha ha) does not include overlooking neglect, and that's whats happening with this child. The funny thing is if you leave your dog in a car-with water and the windows open- on even a fairly hot day, the cops are there in about 5 minutes and passers by are egging the car and spitting at you.

Help these parents and find a car seat for them, and tell them you are just concerned about the boy and how important it is to protect him from the dangers of not being secure in a vehicle. This will be much better than reporting them, if they are having financial problems then they surely don't need any legal matters in there lap. they will appreciate this approach. I'm sure you know someone who has a child seat that their not using or there child has grown out of.

approach the parents it sounds easy but its not. Parents get defensive about their children. You should talk to them first as you dont know what is behind this. Sometimes we adults overreact to a situation and put the parents through unnecessary heart-brake.
Definitely the child's safety comes first so its better to do something today and not just ignore it. If we all helped in a situations like this the world would be a more thoughtful place.

You can call child protective services. I have a friend who is a highway patrolman so I would actually probably just call him and give him the license plate of her vehicle and let him know what time she brings her child to daycare. You probably don't want to feel like your butting in, but that child needs you to stand up for her. If you know this woman, you might want to ask her if she has a car seat and maybe buy her one, or get the church to donate one. That might help.

Depending on whether you are in the UK or the USA the answer probably differs.

If you are in the UK it is now compulsory and the law for a child to be in a car seat, the offending Parents should be reported to either the local Police or the Social Services.

If it is in the USA, then I haven't a clue.

Maybe you could check out your local consignment shops and find a cheap car seat to donate to the cause. As a parent and teacher, I know you're genuninely concerned about the child's safety, and this will give you peace of mind that the child will be safe after you see it in use. You can remain anonymous about it, just give it to the daycare coordinater and ask her to pass it on to that mother (or father) of the child. Selfless acts really pay off, as I'm sure you already know.

Yo could ask the preacher from that church to have a talk to the parent and if that fails than talk directly to the parent herself.
maybe some of you parents can get together and donate some carseats to this childcare ?

There is nothing you can do. Eventually the parent will get pulled over and be fined from the police for this violation. If you really do care that much maybe you could anonymously donate one to the daycare and have them give it to the parent. Just a thought.

I would take your daughter out of that daycare. You have already witnessed that the teachers and director are less then capable if they are doing nothing about this other child.

I would call Child services and tell them what you see.
