I keep reading these heartbreaking stories of girls who know what they're doing is killing them but still say they can't bring themselves to eat, when they're hospitalised they are virtually force fed and put on enough weight to get out of hospital, then stop eating again. Isn't there some way of developing a cannabis based medicine to encourage an appetite. I defy anyone after a spliff to not get the munchies and eat the cupboards bare!!

LEGALIZE IT!!!!!!!!! No seriously, this is why marijuana needs to be legalized, it has incredible medical benefits (also helps with arthritis) and there are no documented cases of death from smoking too much cannibis. Although these girls would also need counciling and other help to keep them on track. Good way of thinking outside the box!

the chemical in cannabis (thc) (i would tell you the real words but cant spell them!) likes to latch on the the receptors in the brain which produce the feeling of hunger (they also tend to go for pain, and emotion) this is why people get hungry, but the problem with jsut smoking cannabis is that it can make you paranoid short term as well as long term so for this reason it may not be advisable for a anorexic patient to smoke. A medicine bassed on THC is a great idea, and may work but again may make the patient paranoid about there weight. however Cannabis has been proven to help the sickness felt during and after chemotherpy sessions and for MS and also arthritis. the problem with anorexia is that weather or not the patient feels hungry they are still most likley not going to eat.

People with anexoric are hungry, they just believe that they are fat even though they are just skin and bones. Marijuna is not the answer. A good support group, friends and family and a personal relationship with God is the answer. Life is to short to look for these kinds of problems. Life is meant to be enjoyed and lived to the fullest. No one with an eating disorder can do this. If a person is overweight, a good exercise program and a healthy diet are what you need, along with pleasant activities that interest them. It is a shame that these girls feel they have to torture their bodies and destroy their lives because they "think" they are fat. It is better to have a little bit of fat on your body so if you get sick, you have something to fight with. A person with some meat on their bones certainly looks better than someone whose ribs show and whose shoulder blades are like razors. Whatever makes them think they are attractive like this is beyond me. They should get some help before they end up like Karen Carpenter, who had an eating disorder and died from it. I think the whole thing is very sad.

that sounds like a good idea but slightly naive as people with Anorexia normally have bulimia too so bing eating is something that they do regularly, they would never keep it down though.

I had anorexia about 12 years ago and the doctor gave me some medicine to make me feel hungry but the daft thing is I loved feeling hungry as when I was hungry I knew I was loosing weight.
Anorexia is a mental problem not a physical one.

I wouldn't have thought that paranoia would help a person suffering from anorexia. Yes you get the munchies, but an anorexic is so self programmed against food that they would still not eat, and chances are if they did they would immediately purge by making themselves sick or using laxities. Not a good state of affairs in a person who is already sick!

Nope ... Although marijuana makes you get the munchies anorexic ppl do not have a physical problem with eating... its a mental problem which can only be resolved through will, determination and behaviour modification.

this drug is not for a person with a mental illlness and anorexia is a mental illness,it can make someone more sick if some one uses this with some kind of mental problem
treating anorexia has to be done with counseling and food and time and alot of issues
medical use of marijuana is great for some dieseases but not mental ones.

the effect of the spliff is to drive down blood sugar levels, hence the feelings of hunger, so it might work
