This is a followup on a question from earlier.
My understanding from the answers was that Islam teaches it was Ishmael who was on the alter, not Isaac.
Also, Abraham took Ishmael and Hagar to Mecca prior to Ishmael being weaned.
Was Ishmael placed on the sacrifical alter as a baby before the trip to Mecca?
Is it because this is where Abraham took them that Mecca is considered sacred?

Was Ishmael (Peace be upon him) placed on the sacrificial alter as a baby before the trip to Makkah?
No. Ishmael (Peace be upon him) was placed to be sacrificed as a young boy, probably as a teenager, not as a baby.
Is it because this is where Abraham (Peace be upon him) took them that Makkah is considered sacred?
No. Makkah is considered sacred because that is where the house of God is. It was visited by other Prophets (Peace be upon them) before Abraham (Peace be upon him) took his wife and child there.
Abraham and Ishmael (Peace be upon them) constructed the house of God together in the spot indicated by God.

That was a corruption of the Bible by Mohammed for his own purposes when he wrote the Quran. Isaac was on the altar. Abraham sent out Hagar and Ishmael into the desert. He did not take them to Mecca or Medina.

Ishmael wasn't a baby then as in the story he told his father "O, Father do what you are ordered"..Abraham was visiting Hagar and Ishmael regularly in Mecca and this happened after a long time from Ishmae's birth.

There is absolutely no Bible basis for this strory and most Christians are not bothered by it because it is illogical.
Ishmael was born of a slave girl and as a result of a plan by Abraham's wife Sarah, and we could also say as a result of her lack of faith in God's promise.
Isaac, however was a miracle child born to Abraham and Sarah in the their old age when Sarah was believed to be barren, as a result of God's plan and God's promise.
It was through the son of Abraham and SARAH that God's promise would be fulfilled to Abraham that he would me the father of many.
Therefore, God wanted to put him to the test so see if he really beleved in God's promises. Sacrificing Ishmael would not have been such a test, but sacrificing Isaac, the son that God had promised and made possible would have been a tremendous test.
Muslims only make these illogical claims because tey do not have a true understanding of Jewish and Christian scriptures.

>>"My understanding from the answers was that Islam teaches it was Ishmael who was on the alter, not Isaac."<<
I do not know if this is accurate, but what they believe or not... it is contrary to the story as Jews and Christians know it. by the story as we know it, it was indeed Isacc. remember Ishmael was the offspring of Abraham with the handmaiden Hagar, since Sarah(or was it sarai at the time... I can't remember... naughty me) was seemingly barren. (as opposed to Isacc which was Abraham's offspring with Sarah, after Ishmael)
>>"Also, Abraham took Ishmael and Hagar to Mecca prior to Ishmael being weaned."<<
this is not mentioned in the actual story in the torah. but who knows, it doesn't tell every minute of their lives...
>>"Was Ishmael placed on the sacrifical alter as a baby before the trip to Mecca? "<<
in the story of the binding of Isacc, Isacc is at very least a older teenager or young adult, from most understandings. some even go as far as to have him be as a fully grown adult. basically if he didn't want to go along with the whole thing... he could have definitely overpowered abraham, and that most do not consider isacc to have been an infant like the way some portray it. in fact I belive its specified that Isacc helps carry the wood.
>>"Is it because this is where Abraham took them that Mecca is considered sacred? "<<
again, no clue about the mecca thing, but since I'm not entirely sure what you mean on this... I am pretty sure most understand that the location of the temple mount is the spot where the binding of isacc, and a few other events occured.
I apologize if this is entirely not what your looking for, but hopefully its of some use in some way.

I thought he was an adult or at least of the age that he understood the events when the sacrifice was to be made.

That may be Islam's interpretation, but the Bible says nothing about this incident.
