Okay I went to the public laundry place today to wash 2 comforters. My husband and I didn't have any dryer sheets so the lady who works there gave us 2 that someone else had left behind. Later, I was under the blankets and I felt a tightness around my throat. I couldn't breathe right and had a horrible taste in my mouth, like how perfume smells. I got up, told my husband, we took the blankets off the bed. I sat on the bed and immediately my throat tightened and I could not breathe, this time it was worse. My head feels a little tight, my throat was very tight at the bottom, it has gone away a little since I put ice on it. I don't have any hives so I am not sure whether it could be an allergic reaction to the new detergent or not, or maybe the type of dryer sheets. I am not sure what to do. This happened within the last half hour.

Yes, I also swear it was a different detergent. My mother-in-law says that she uses that all the time, but she doesn't wash my sheets, I do, and I always use Arm & Hammer but this time I used Ajax because it was already open/being used, and this never happened before.

It COULD be an allergic reaction - just no hives. I think you should seek medical attention immediately. Seriously, not being able to breathe is no joke.

It sounds like you were having an allergic reaction. You don't have to get hives to be allergic. I would try Benedryl and have your husband take the sheets off the bed and the comforters and go rewash them with hot water and no dryer sheets. If you continue to have shortness of breathe or the tightness in your throat get worse, call 911.

You can pretty well bet that you are allergic to something in the dryer sheet that you used. What you had sounds like an anaphalacatic reaction, some people are allergic to bees and their throat starts to close, it seems that you are having that type of episode only your allergy is to something in the dryer sheet. Too bad you don't know what kind it was so you could see what the ingredients are, your doc would be able to tell you what to stay away from. Tell your doc what happened, maybe he has some insight as to the ingredients in different dryer sheets.

you had an anaphalactic reaction. It is an allergic reaction. You may have had it to the dryer sheets or remince of something left behind in the dryer. You should go to the Dr. and get an epi pen. (it is a shot you give yourself in the situation you were in. People die from anaphalactic shock which you were in). I also would not use dryer sheets anymore. Did you use a different degergent?

Maybe, it's due to the food that you've eaten. But then, so as to lessen the tightness of your throat, kindly eat 4 or 5 pcs. of cookies and drink coke. Swallow as you drink it so that the coke and I am sure, the coke will help.
It happened to me one time when my townhouse mate gave me a chrysantemum tea and after 2 hours, that tightness of the throat occurred, too. Then I drank coke after eating some biscuits so as not to drink coke with empty stomach. As a result, the itchiness and tightness of my throat was gone. Then by 2-3AM, my townhouse mate kept on coughing. I knocked at her door to hand over to her half of the bottled coke and some biscuits. She started to urgue with me coz she's not a coke drinker but in the end, she gave up and followed my first aid medication. So, when she woke up, she simply greated me with a smile on her face saying...... "Good morning, Doc!"
You better try it. Then when morning comes, go immediately to your family doctor for a real medication. Good night :) and GOD BLESS!

If this just happened and you are on the computer I would have to say that it is not an allergic reaction. It sounds more to me like an anxiety attack.
