Dont buy from a dealer, buy from an individual. You will get LOADS more car for the money. Dealers have fees and taxes that bring up the costs considerably.

I think you need to save up more money. $2000 is not enough to get a good running car. You might look into the car dealerships that rent cars with an option to buy.

Go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov to find Consumer Complaints, Defect Investigations, Recalls, and Technical Service Bulletins for each type of car you're looking at. Remember, for $2000, it's more important how the car was driven and serviced then what model.

you need to find an older toyota/honda if possible because you most likely will be buying a car with over 100,000 miles on it and you want something that will last you at least 2 years. Try a 95 civic or camry

don't spend it all at once and do your research. you have to have insurance and money for maintaince. shop around and find a car some old woman has not driven alot, be prepare for breakdowns and up keep. an old beater is a good starter just be prepared to look after it and it will look after you.
