This is a tom cat ( i have a female spayed aged 7 ) he is about ten yrs old, this blasted cat keeps coming in, eating all my cats food and biscuits and wanders around the house ! This has been going on for months...I have caught it a number of times when it has taken a chance thinking i wasnt in or a 2,3,4 in the morning! We have now had to put a case of beer in front of the cat flap at night and lock our cat in, as it breaks through a locked cat flap, i have laid traps where i have very heavily laced cat food with chilli ..and yep it's eaten it, and still it comes back !! My cat will only go out at night to have a wee if one of us in the the garden, then she runs back in, she is really nervous of this cat. We have had her to the vets three times to sort out injuries after he has pounced on her. Can someone help..advice... hubby is suggesting we lay in wait for it one night then take it on a long journey away from our house !

I would keep that cat door blocked at night. If a cat can find a way to enter, then he'll do it. I have an outdoor cat that does the same thing, just walks right in and starts eating indoor cat's food. I have actually gone as far as to making a cat house for him for outside and he actually does sleep out there, provided I always leave out a can of wet food for him. Damn cats, they want everything their way!

"Man is a reasoning animal." -Aristotle

It almost goes without saying then that animals have no reason.

The cat can't think of what is right or what is wrong. But it will understand a little bit of pain.

The next time the cat comes around, hit it with a broom. The broom is hard enough to give it a little scare but soft enough not to hurt the cat.

Do this for a few days, and the cat won't come back again.

I know this isn't the PC thing to say, but swatting a cat is an easy way to fix this problem.

And so no one is confused, I don't want you to hurt the cat. Just give a good smack with a broom.

I think I would trap the cat in the house and then take it to your local animal rescue place. They will find a home for the blasted thing. And in my are at least (Boston) there are plenty of "no-kill" shelters, so you can both give your own pet some peace AND avoid feeling overly guilty.

The sad thing is, it's probably someone's pet who isn't taking care of it. If it has a collar on, I'd try to find out whose responsibility this IS and make them actually BE responsible.

you can legal trap and catch this cat. when you have done so call your local council and they will pick it up for free. im not sure where you are but here in Queensland a cat has as much right as a dog. if its not on a lead and straying the streets it will be captured and the owners will face fines!

My Mum had the same problem with her cat she bought a cat doorstop to keep the door open in the summer. When the other cat kept coming in nicking food and generally terrorising her cat she placed the doorstop next to the cat flap and now the strange cat thinks it's keeping watch and doesn't go in any more

why not try getting a water pistol and spraying the cat as my grnadma tried this to stop cats scarying away birds in the garden now no cats even think about coming in the garden.

This kind of thing has happened with my cats in the past, the best solutions I can offer is either get a dog that will consider your cat as one of the pack or wait for this other cat to come creeping in and pour a bucket of very cod water over it mixing in a little lemon juice ( cats hate anything citric). If this approach fails the first time keep doing it, the cat will get the message.

Ah ha a Cat Burgler!

Seriously though... I am a cat lover but this cat needs to be taught a lesson, does it have a collar? If so have a word with the owners if its tame enough for you to get a look at it.

If not it could be a ferrall cat or just a homeless stray in which case contact the RSPCA and report it as well as explaining the injurys your cat has suffered at its expense.

The next thing is to catch it and take it to the RSPCA and say it appears lost, if nobody claims it they will re-house it.

If all else fails, squirt it with Lemon or Orange Juice everytime you catch it in the house it will soon get the message.
