We are trying to decide what to get our son for his 2nd birthday. Which toys did you find your 2 year old uses and enjoys the most. Right now, our boy is into big legos(have lots) and cars, and the little people, but I want to get him something that he will enjoy and playwith lots.....any suggestions?

Hi There, My grandson will turn 2 three weeks after Christmas. Right now, his imagination is becoming more obvious, more developed. He will take what cars and trucks he has right now and arrange them and play his own games with them so he will be getting more cars and trucks this year. Stay away from Matchbox and Hot-wheels type cars as these are too small and children this age will try to pull the wheels off the cars, which presents a choking hazard. He loves playing in the water so this Christmas/Birthday wish lists have toy boats and other small water toys that he can play with in the bath tub during the winter and in the splash pool next summer. He has recently discovered that he can make marks on the paper by himself when he get a hold of a pen or pencil so fat crayons and blank paper are a good idea. Books, especially word/picture books. Children are never too young to be exposed to books. My grandson loves watching the movies Cars, and Over the Hedge. There seems to be enough movement without a lot of violence that keeps his attention. For the most part at this age, the best major toy line is Playschool and Fischer Price. Playschool does a very good job of creating age appropriate toys for all children. Beyond that, if the toy makes a noise the boys will probably love it. Good luck

If you don't have any big activity toys yet you might look into them. A simple toddler slide is small enough to be in the house for winter, just brought ours in. Sandbox is great but definately outdoors. Cozy Coup cars are a hit at 2 and may fit indoors (one in my dining room) Like some one said any miniature of adult stuff, kitchen set, workbench, little lawnmowers, vacuums, shopping carts. Good luck

Our son, who is now 2 yrs, 5 months, still loves his first craftsman tools. We got the toolbelt with baisc tools, drill and flashlight for Christmas last year. He feels so proud of himself when daddy is fixing something and he is right there with his toolbelt on "helping". We are planning on getting him the work bench sears has for Christmas this year.

He is also into drawing, we have a huge supply of the color wonders paler, markers, finger paints. If your son shows an interest in coloring/drawing he might enjoy his own little drawing desk.

There are lots of good suggestions so far, good luck. I'm sure whatever you decide your son will love it.

At the age of 2 your desire for him to find 1 favorite thing is greater than his to play with 1 favorite thing. They like to explore - ALOT, so their attention span isn't very long for any one toy has been my experience. They'll even play with the cardboard boxes that the toys come in! Therfore, I would recommend either something educational like childrens books on his favorite subjects (cars, dinosaurs etc.) , or something that develops his imagination and creativity (maybe a play set that mimmicks whatever you or your husband do for a living - kids love to be like mommy and daddy). Whatever you choose though, don't be very disappointed if he doesn't play with it 24/7. It doesn't mean he doesn't like it, it just means he is 2. Good luck!
