She rang to chat but ended up ranting about how the Arabs need to be 'saved'.

'Yes', I thought, 'from bombs, bullets, tanks, missiles, and the onslaught of people flooding in to kill them'.

But that wasn't what she meant.... she meant they need to become 'Christians'.

Ok whatever.

Then I got an earful about how they think they will be gaining 'heaven' by blowing themselves up in the name of Allah, and how terrible is that? etc...

'Ok, whatever.' (again).

Next she's telling me that hundreds of thousands of Christians are going from China to these countries that are closed to Christianity and 'witnessing' in order to bring people to Christianity. She tells me that they are being martyred for their faith.

'Isn't that wonderful?' she excitedly exclaimed. 'That is how I would want to die. A bullet through my head for the sake of Christ. Just think how it would encourage your fellow believers.?'

All I can think is: Ok... whatever!

Comments? This is psychotic!

Well..whether it's a mom or a well meaning friend, preaching at others is a sure "turn off!" ( And I'm a person very much interested in all this stuff, but I don't try to convince others by force)
What subjects are you interested in? ( even If it's a saved toenails collection! hee hee) Perhaps you could talk about that to her, by changing the subject. If she continues to "preach" at you, revert back to your topic...and keep doing it til she stops!!! ;~) Bet she won't do that to you too much anymore!
Good luck!

She is obviously excited about being a Christian and what it entails. You are obviously not!

She should realise that you are not really interested and not rave on so much! She would be better talking about all that stuff to a someone else she knows that is a Christian.

I am a Chrisitan and my mum is into hinduism. When she raves about her stuff i dont like it either. I never rave to her about Christian stuff because i know she wont understand.

This will make you laugh - my mum (who is a bit weird i think!) recently went to a psychodrama workshop. Does that sound bizarre to you?

When she came back from it i told her i didnt really want to hear the details. As long as she got something out of it and was happy thats ok. Otherwise dont tell me - i just dont get it!!

Bottom line - Mums are annoying and rave on. But where would we be without them!?

P.s even though i am a Christian i dont necessarily agree with the comments you said she said! I dont think it would be wonderful to go over and die. There are other ways to serve that are less dangerous. God wants us to have a life full of blessings and richness. He doesnt want us to get harmed.

It gets extremely tough to turn these folks around and I am in no way saying they need to give up religion. From my experience these are lonely people who want to affix some importance to their life. The age old 'why am I here'. What better way to make your life fulfilling than to follow Christ to the cross, that outa get you a straight shot to heaven. Everyone around them is in dire danger of going to hell while they are saved and ready to save. Get her a hobby where she can be with other people. This sounds simple but I gotta tell ya, it's not. She will fight you every step of the way and alienate folks you introduce her to. Religion is a great thing but in excess it can do as much damage as any other addiction.
And you're not alone, apparently I'm bound for hell too, sheesh, at least I'll have lots of company.

Wow - reminds me of when my mom went on a rant about how God sent AIDS as a punishment for the gays.

This is one of the first times I argued with her.

Next time she says thats what she wants, tell her to get off the pot and go on a mission. She can go to Indonesia or to Belurus - they'll help her.
Perhaps she'll settle down.

Explain to her that Arabs aren't at war with anybody right now. Currently, the Iraqis, aided by various Muslim groups, which may include some Arabs, are opposing the US invasion into their country.

It is scary that people would want to die for a myth. It shows the inherent danger of religion as a tool for controlling people. Dying is not wonderful. It means you just don't exist anymore. Dying for a fictional character is sad. Killing others and spreading dangerous superstition is tragic.

Ask her if she would like it if Arabs convinced Christians to be Muslims. And aren't people who die for their religion going to be a bit difficult to convince that they do that for the wrong cause!
Tell her maybe she's the one with wrong beliefs...How can she judge until she knows enough about Arabs and Islam?!

this may be fine for some but as for me I personally am a coward. give me a chance to stay away from where the opposition are killing Christians and will do so. in case I happen to be in an area where they start killing Christians I'm going to leave so quickly " my ankles will set my socks afire " as the song goes. preaching to those who want it is one thing but to place ones life on the line where one is not wanted or welcome are up to others more ----------- ( fill in the blank according to your personal attitude here ) than I am.

So want to come along with us?

May GOD richly bless you.
