Islam teaches that it is better to give in charity and that begging or 'taking' is "makrooh" i.e. disliked. It instructs that a portion of each person's income (which is a blessing from God not something to be arrogant about) belongs to their family, poor, orphans and widows etc. Giving this portion of one's wealth is a way of purifying one's wealth in that it shows that a person recognises their duty and is thankful for the blessing of an income. It is important to note that the Holy Quran in the openingverses of chapter 2 advises that believers are those who spend out ofwhathas been provided for themby God -this is not just money but also one's time, emotional support, education and skills.

However the giving of this required charity does not purify one's conscience. that can be done through prayer and good works (including voluntary acts of charity).

Islamic communities have a system to redistribute wealth amidst the community so thateach person can follow these requirements. This process is carried out without fanfare as it is a requirement, not an act of benevolence. Above thisbasic requirement are optional acts ofcharity which are acts of benevolence. Muslims in Muslim countries already give as well as the Muslims in this country. They give their state tax, their religious tax and optional charity.

As a child my father gave me his loose change when we were out and indicate towards a collector or beggar or charity box as away to encourage me.

Muslims are therefore givers. some may be takers but there is no social category that is completely black or white - it is just that some have more grey than others

I am not sure what exactly mean by culture, different religions? different societies? Any way, what about Muslims living in non-muslim countries? Do they have no contribution to those societies? I doubt. They would have been sent home if so.

My country is a mixture of muslims and chrisitians and we help each other. Muslims help fellow muslims as much as they help christians.

No one in the world is just a taker. Why would the world give them then?

Odd question. Its always down to the individual surely? Not being an expert on the Koran I imagine its got the same storyies about charity and being good samaritans???

I think abit of competition between Christians/ Muslims etc about who gives the most to charity can only be a good thing!!

I think they are just takers.

Some Muslim countries have vast resereves of oil, and are very rich. But you don't see them giving VAST amounts of money to disaster relief - not even when it's in a Muslim country.

Muslims willing take the "Infidels' " money where there is a crisis - but then they hate us. Similarly, they come and live here so they can scrounge off the State - but they can't even bother to learn English.

I do not give money to any charity that will not assure me that they will not give a penny to a Muslim. And, the next time there's a disaster in a Muslim country, we "Infidels" should give them no support at all.

do christian jews and hiindus help muslims?
The truth is all religons start up charities to help their "own kind" whether its right or wrong to do it tht way doesn't seem to matter any longer because tht is the way it is. Personally me and my family mostly donate to islamic and muslim charities and british charities (and then obviously donate to charities like cancer and children in need etc too). And we dont take anything from anyone else at all, now i think thts fair whether u do or dont doesn't really matter does it?

Muslims helped raise "western" society from the dark ages, I think they must have given quite a bit for that feat.

Examples range from astronomy all the way to medicine.

Grow up and learn a bit more perhaps?
