I had shoulder length hair. Due to too much dyeing they were damaged beyond repair. Dry and brittle. When I stopped work I did not wash it frequently. Usually I wash it in every 2 weeks. Now, Voila! I have long healthy hair. They're shiny and new again. I learned it by chance. I think it is more psychological that you want it to be clean. Be more patient. Brush them and use mild hair oil everyday. Not on the scalp. Try natural drying after wash. Don't use a hair dryer.

What type of hair do you have? If it is a mess from washing daily, then cut back on the washing. It sounds like it is dry, so use moisturizers. Wear it up, like a ponytail or a bun or something.

washing hair too often stimulates the oil glands (sebum) in your scalp, why not try a clarifying shampoo that take away product build up and keeps hair cleaner for longer
