Hypocritical? These are the people who voted FOR the war. Are their children too good to serve? Of course, the presidential family doesn't have any children there either. Is this a war only for what our leaders would consider to be the lower classes?

glock509, the President of the United States, himself, who is not a young man, has NO known grandchildren, but he DOES have two young daughters who are ready for service. Why are the people in Congress any different?

glock509, your question about my own service, or the lack of it, is a fair one. At the age of 18, after a freshman year of Air Force R.O.T.C. at the University of Georgia, I was told by my neurosurgeon that I was dying of cancer of the cervical vertebrae and, according to him, had only days to live. On that same day, I received a notice from my draft board, which ordered me to report for induction immediately. I asked my father, a decorated veteran of WWII, to tell them that I was willing, but that they would have to send an ambulance to pick me up. Selective Service declined my offer, and sent me a notice that I had been classified as 4-F, unfit for military service. I would much rather have served in Vietnam than endure the hell I experienced during many surgeries which followed the miraculous remission of my cancer. My apologies that I was unable to serve.

mpltmiller, thank you for your service in Kuwait. If it keeps your morale up, I hope you continue to believe what you wrote.

it seems like they think it's easier to send other people's children, husbands, fathers, to war than their own. they support the troops but would not put their own at risk. i know how you feel, and with Korea now declaring war, who knows what's going to happen.

I saw numbers showing that a higher ratio of members of Congress have family members serving in the military than the general population.
I have them somewhere but I am in Kuwait right now so I don't have access to all my stuff.

Yeah where are your kids? Did you send them off to war? Those kids are not responsible for whatever their Dad votes on. We have Professional Soldiers now. That is the idea of not having a draft to create an army of professionals who know what they are doing not just taking whoever comes along.

This song explains it pretty well.....
Black Sabbath's War Pigs
Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.
Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.
Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!

The simple truth is because America pays the fat congressmen so well, their kids can afford an education.
It's always been the same for young working class men, can't find work? Can't afford university? Join the army and serve your country.

Because it is easier to sacrifice little people's children instead. I am sure those were problem kids to them anyway.
As a mother, I dare and challenge the draft if it is reactivated. If I have to hide my sons under the earth, take them out of school, do whatever, I will. Nobody is killing my children for a petty grudge that started in Texas.

I seriously doubt it is hypocrisy. Probably just coincidence. Most of these people's children are probably in college or decided on a path that isn't involved with the military.

To my way of thinking none of them have the Ba**s to father children.
Politicians are the most corrupt and selfish people on the planet, they can control our life's but their family can tell them where to go.
God bless all our serving troops.
