Greyhounds and whippets do not typically bark a lot, depends on the dog. It may sound cruel, but if it means the difference between having/keeping or putting down the dog it really isn't, but a vet can simple "debark" or soften the harshness of a dog's bark and keep you from getting fines in the city for barking dogs. Some cities FORCE you to debark dogs if you keep a number of them. Hope this info is helpful to you, also a note, whippets or greyhounds are very people-oriented dogs (my mother calls them email dogs, they always want to be attached to their person!), are more like 4-legged humans but ARE inside ONLY dogs but a joy to have in the family.

It's right that basenjis don't bark but the yodeling they do is a lot worse than most dogs barking. Most all greyhounds seldom bark - of my 3 only one of them ever barks, and it's only 3 or 4 barks, then he stops (he does it to get the neighbors dogs going!)

I have a greyhound and he seldom barks, The only time he really barks is when we are playing with him and get him excited or another dog plays with him. He always wants to be near me. Ive had mine since he was 5 weeks old and he is the best kind of dog to own . Very loving animals.

My Whippets only bark if there is really something to bark about. Sighthounds in general are pretty quiet dogs. I grew up with Shelties and had Kees and got so tired of the senseless nonstop yapping.
Basenjis make a terrible loud death moan type of sound, calling it a nice name like yodeling doesn't make it sound any less awful. I couldn't stand to listen to it every day.

Basenjis don't bark, but they make a sound that sounds like a human child crying. Their is a children's book about a basenji called "Weep No More My Lady."

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/epOKw
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.
