Will answer later.

I will try and answer as best as i can.

I know about Bombay India.

But from other answer it appears that by and large residential supply in India is 200-250 nominal Volts, 50 Hz.

In USA the standard supply is 110-120 nominal Volts, 60 Hz.It also has 220 olt, 60 Hz, supply in most new houses, for electric water heater and stoves and cooking range.

What Will work in USA if purchased in India for use in India.?

Any lamp purchased in India with the bulb will work, at low intensity, you need to replace the plug. If you like more light get a bigger bulb from India.

Heater and other thing will give out less heat in USA if purchased in India with Indian ratings.

If it is 250 volt rated motor, it will run little faster in USA, will have less life, may burn the bearings in short time.

In both places you should be able to buy any ratings, you may have to find a right store.

It is lot easier to buy the stuff in the the country of use, at one time thing were not available in India, so poeple were bringing things and buying converters.

Converters are available but you have to know, what you are doing.
