It does not help to do either, exercising is what gets the weight off and keeps it off. The minute you stop dieting you gain it all back and then some. Exercise three times a week twenty minutes a day, and that will do you good.

I have had a weight problem for some time, and to date I have only been on one sucessful diet. I have tried just about any diet you can think of, and they all led to te same results... I gained the weight back. Most diets are set up to reduce your intake at the same time of altering your food menu. The problem is, when you get so sick of the restricted foods and you finally go back to regular foods, you end up gaining your weight back and then some.
Counting carbs forces you to alter what you eat... and every card diet I've done has been met with failure.
The one diet that has worked, and I still use on occasion (I seem to lose weight in spirts), is a calorie counter. You can find it at CalorieKing.com. Basically, if you want a Big Mac, eat it. If you want pizza, eat it. What ever you eat, you simply use the program to track it... it tells you how much food you're allowed to have each day. You also don't have to worry about how many calories, carbs, fats, etc... are in the foods because it tracks that as well. Simply enough, when you have eaten your share of food for the day, then stop. You can eat anything, but stop when it tells you to.
I really like this program and so far, I have not gained any weight back since I have used it. I have done it twice, and each one has been met with success.
Take a look at the web site and try the free trial... you'll like it.
( By the way, I don't work for them or even know them, and only promote the site because it works for me. You be your own judge.)
Good luck!!

Actually, you want to do both. You want to limit your calorie intake while watching your carbs. If all your calories come from bread, then that isn't a good thing. You can see the picture. You would want your carbs to come from the low glycemic index or complex carbohydrates. These carbs are processed slower and enter your blood stream slower which causes your insulin to enter slower. When this happens, you don't get as hungry as quick.
I started using Stack Body Tune Up weight loss system and Advanced Cell Therapy energy drink and have lost 35 pounds since July 15, 2006. What this has helped me do is to lower my caloric intake and I have helped the process along by choosing my foods better.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

To lose weight you can either decrease your caloric intake or increase your caloric output, or both. Choose a diet that provides adequate protein and exercise like crazy.

BOTH you have to limit your calorie intake, and carbs. Carbs turns into sugar / fat but mostly look at the saturated fats. Excercize, Excercize, Excercize........
