It sure is! It sucks to have it, but if you can find a medicine to work for you and talk to counselors, it makes it easier to bear.
Good Luck!!

depression does tend to run in the family, ie it tend to be hereditary. However ur brain is an extremely complex organ and genetics played a very small part in the working of ur brain; in fact it is probably the organ in ur body least bound by genetic. So try to be positive, rein in negative thoughts, reward urself for achievements, don't go too hard on ur failures and u should not suffer from depression. if these don't work seek counselling help or talk things over with supportive friends.

Yes, sweetie, it can be. Also, if you're living with a depressed person, that itself can be depressing.
It's also very treatable though, sometimes with counseling...sometimes we all just need a neutral person to dump on, other times with meds. I take Zoloft and it's been a real miracle for me.
Don't feel ashamed to ask for help. We're living in a very stressful world today, and a huge percentage of Americans are on anti-depressants. You are NOT alone.

Yes and no. Depression is often caused by a chemical imbalance, typically brought on by stress or puberty. But, you can be genetically prone to such a imbalance.
Its not a "because they have it, I'm cursed".Half the battle is simply being aware of the fact that you may be prone to such feelings and be able to identify them as cuased by a outside force and not yourself. Your depression could be caused by hormones, or you could just be sad. Once you can understand the difference, you'll be able to better assess whether you feel this way because of stimulus or because of a imbalance.
