I think it's a response to criticism that Starbucks has a liberal agenda. They want to do well in the Bible Belt and with more conservative coffee drinkers so they're trying something different. If it doesn't work, it'll be business as usual soon enough. If the religious folks start going to Starbucks, they might keep the Christian literature. I'm pretty sure that it has more to do with the bottom line than any conversion experience.

Quote from Seattle Times
Starbucks says it was hoping to inspire old-fashioned coffee-house conversations when it introduced a campaign this year featuring the words of notable Americans on its coffee cups.
But at least a few of those words are sparking more discord than discussion.
A national Christian women's organization is accusing the Seattle-based coffee maker of promoting a homosexual agenda because of a quote by author Armistead Maupin, whose "Tales of the City" chronicled San Francisco's homosexual community in the 1970s and 1980s.
-------------------------------
After that incident , Starbucks responded with this
---------------------------
Starbucks to put a God quote on its cups
Trying to please those who didn't like the quote about being gay? (USA Today)
> UPDATE: A person from Starbucks corporate (who asked not to be named) insists the God-quote cup is not a response to those who called for a boycott after the Maupin cup
+++++++++++++++++++++
This proves one thing, you cant please everybody.

People are finally figuring out that Christians do indeed have tons of cash. In knowing that they are going to cater to them. Enjoy it. You might learn a thing or two. If you don't like it, find another coffee shop but first of all go to the Starbucks website or call their customer service to ask what is going on intstead of complaining about it.

Probably not temporary.
A lot of people are getting fed up with a lot of the anti-Christian stuff going on in the world and probably feel that this is as good a way as any to express themselves.
Just be thankful that it's not Islam stuff.

A gimmick to get people talking...and it's working! They raised their coffee prices, and have more competition, so they need to do something to get them back in the limelight!

Why is it that we have to respect every other holiday, every other opinion, every kind of person...but when it comes to Christmas, people get all upset. It's just a freakin holiday, the fact they have religious stuff isnt going to ruin your life.
