We were just passing by each other through a friends house. She is a wonderful woman and very very nice. She merely looked up and smiled and said You have the heartbeat of a cat and went on her way.

Well, if you do have the heartbeat of a cat, you aren't in very good shape. the average heart beat per minute of a cat is 160 to 220, and the maximum heartbeat of a 40 year old is around 180. That's maximum. My 16 year old brother, who plays soccer and has a really healthy heart, averages 50 beats per minute.

She probably either meant that you have a high heartrate, or else she was just trying to sound all ethereal and mysterious and cool, and wanted you to think she knew something arcane. I doubt she actually meant anything by it.

But you can still think of yourself as cat-like if you want, cats are the most popular animal people like to associate themselves with. They're very glamorous for some reason. Telling someone that they have something about them which is similar to a cat is going to strike home pretty much every time...most people, especially females, are more than willing to believe that they are spiritually cat-like, because most of us definitely feel that way. Hearing it from a supposedly 'wiser' and more 'spiritually connected' source makes us feel even better about it. We love for people to tell us cool-sounding things about ourselves.

To me it sounds like, she may have been meaning that you have a very skiddish, scared or nervous heart. Cats tend to have a rapid heartbeat and get scared easily. It is just a metaphor to try to explain something about you. It is hard to know more about what she may have been trying to say as you didn't provide the whole context of why she was saying that to you.

In some forms of whitch craft people are believed to have a totem. I do not know the divination process for deciding who gets what totem but i reckon that's what the whitch would have meant. your totem is a spirit that protects you. personally i think it's all a load of crap.

I have heard this before and believe it is the free spirit of the cat. People can have spirits (soul) that is free and not held down. Your soul is light and open and can never be contained. This is a good things. People don't rule you.

You might as well start playing with a Ouija board or consulting tarot cards, or calling the latest 900-number "psychic". And what do their messages mean? Evil and travesty, nothing more.
