We are being accused of requiring N. Korea to stop her Nuclear proliferation, while we maintain our nuclear "threat".

If we are such a threat, whom, may I ask you, is truly at risk from this threat?

Only to people who would do us harm if given the chance.

The United States is a threat to some rogue nations that support terrorism. However, the rogue nations of Iran and North Korea have both received repeated assurances by the US that there is no imminent threat, and negotiations would work if they complied. The short answer: the US is a nuclear threat to no nation on Earth at this time.

Viakin and TLRF are both sadly mistaken on their facts and deluded for thinking anything along those lines.

Russia has long maintained a much larger nuclear stockpile than the U.S. So no matter how you count that, the U.S. can't have 95%. The latest figures I can find are about 16,000 Russian to our 9,000. Also, the UK, France, China, India, and Pakistan have all officially joined the club. Israel unofficially joined, and North Korea sort of joined.

Furthermore, North Korea did ratify the NPT agreeing that only the 5 permanent members of the Security Council would have or seek to have nuclear weapons. According to their ratification, they were bound to abandon their nuclear weapons ambitions, which they never did. They violated this countless times trying to enrich weapons grade uranium, and withdrew from the Treaty in 2003 when they finally got close to testing their weapons. It's simply not possible to initiate, develop, create, and test nuclear weapons without outside help in 3 years.

TLRF, the 5 perm members of the United Nations Security Council agreed upon the terms and created the Non-Proliferation Treaty. 187 countries became parties to this treaty. The U.S. has followed the terms of its nuclear arms reduction treaties with the former Soviet Union/Russia and is continuing to reduce its stockpiles. The most nuclear weapons we've had was 32,000 in 1966. Since then we've destroyed/dismantled about 22,000.

Your facts are almost completely wrong. The only point you got right is that the US is the only country to have used them in war, and that's only because we were the first to have them. No serious historian doubts the fact that the Japanese, Germans, and Russians would all have used it in WWII if they had one operational. In fact the Germans were getting close to having one, and only failed because they were swiftly overrun after the US led the invasion of Fortress Europe.

Whether or not we had to use them is debatable, but hindsight's 20/20...

TLRF, although I am sure you are an unpatriotic anti-American liberal, I am not labeling you that here. I simply label you STOOPID.

To anybody considering answering a question, please learn a thing or two about it first. You just show your ignorance by replying like these two participants.

Daniel, nice partisan effort, but the North Koreans breeched the contract in every way possible innumerable times before Pres. Bush acknowledged that the policy had failed and stopped supporting them further. And yes, the US is still dismantling/destroying its nuclear arsenal. Your statement that it is not is patently incorrect.

the states may not be a real nuclear threat. However they signed a treaty with the other nuclear country's to disarm years ago and has never taken it very seriously. So to some non nuclear county's it may seem that America is waiting for the right time to strike.

Oh and I don't know if many people know this but N. Korea and America had a agreement about nuclear proliferation where America would provide N. Korea with aid and heavy fuel oil in return for N. Korea not researching a nuclear arsenal. But the Bush administration dropped there end of the bargain in 2002

For all the talk of N Korea and others with nuclear weapons, history shows that to this day, only the USA has used nuclear weapons against another country. And since that day it has been the only country trying to dictate to others what their nuclear policy should be. Yet, the USA itself has not disbanded it's cache of nuclear weapons and, if reports are to be believed, are busy developing a new array of nuclear weapons.

Anyone smell hypocrisy in the air?

How are the actions of the USA not hypocritical? The argument that is not and others presented are one sided and anyone who disagrees is then labeled as being upatriotic/anti-America or LIBERAL.

N. Korea and anyone else who creates and uses nuclear weapons, regardless of who they are, should cease developing nuclear warfare systems and tools - a fool would do otherwise, a fool who would knowingly endanger the whole world and humanity.

“…the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.” - Hermann Goering at Nuremberg on 18th April, 1946

You only thought bout your side. America owns 95% of the Nuclear bombs ON THE PLANET. You are a threat to yourselves and everyone also. Also N Korea was not involved with the nuclear disarmament plan. And is not technically required to disarm their weapons.

The whole planet is at risk, when ANY country stockpiles nuclear weapons. Both we and N. Korea are a threat to the rest of the world--all of it.

First thing to mention is that the U.S. each year destroys a certian amount of nukes that has been agreed on by the former U.S.S.R. and they do the same.
Secondly the people who claim that the U.S. is a threat to the world are because we have nukes so therefor we are going to use them. Wrong idea or thought on this.
Lastly the U.S. is a threat only because those who hate the U.S. say so!

not really anyone, but as long as other countries have nukes, so will we. I forgot the term for it, but it's when countries keep nukes so they both scare each other by having them that they will never use them.
