This is a hard one for me to answer for a couple of reasons..FIRST I will say that it is embedded into my brain that it is disrespectful to not refer to the person as "AUNT OR UNCLE am 26 years old and still hear about it if I do not call them by aunt or uncle. It is hard for me because I work for my Aunt and I can not call her Aunt while we are at work . Also my uncle works for the college and I get into trouble for calling him Uncle instead of professor because it is disrespectful...so I am drawn .I think it is in certain areas of every ones lives but I also think there are times when it is not needed. I also have a niece who is 21 and I do not make her call my by aunt but all of the rest of my nieces and nephews I prefer for them to call me AUNT SISSY because that is who I am

I don't think so unless that particular aunt or uncle has requested to be addressed that way. Whenever I'm in doubt as how to address someone, I always just ask. It feels awkward for a second, but better than feeling awkward everytime I see them and not know what to call them.

I'm not sure... I have a nephew who is only 5 years younger than me, so he doesn't really call me Aunt -- whenever we're out in public, people think we're the same age!

I think it depends. I have a niece who is very young, and she likes and admires me, but usually she just calls me by my first name, unless someone reminds her to call me Auntie. I think it's because she sees me as more of an older sister or friend than as an aunt, which I guess is kind of cool too. And I think part of it is that she associates "aunt" with older people, because most of her other aunts and uncles are 40, and I'm 25. But some people in our family think it is disrespectful of her not to call me aunt.

Its only direspectful if the aunt or uncle wants to be addressed as aunt... or uncle.... and the child refuses and it is not enforced by the parents. growing up I even called my grandma by her first name and I know a lot of people who even call their parents by their first name. as I got older I started saying grandma. It varies from family to family

No, I don't call my aunts and uncles Aunt so-and-so or Uncle so-and-so.
It doesn't make me disrespectful because disrespect is deeper than what you call someone.

I am into manners and respect big time !! but , the fact is, you need to ask the aunt or uncle how they prefere to be refered to.... if they ask you to use the full thing , then do so, if not, then dont....... God bless

No i don't think it's disrespectful. It really depends on your age and family background.

But really I think it is cool to just call them by their first name.
