The exact number is difficult to pin point. But cults recruit people who are loners, have bad family situations, people who have feelings of worthlessness, people who want to be "in the know". Cults, (religious) usually have the corner on the "market" and say, "we are the only true ones" and have a special insight or understanding of the Holy Bible which no others have! Religious cults tend to be rigid and far too many times both, emotionally and physically abusive. They employ FEAR and like to isolate their subjects from friends, family and the world. There is a chief or major difference between religion and spirituality. Religion is man-made and spirituality is a relationship with a Higher Power. Spirituality identifies WHO you ARE; whereas, religion is "shame-based". In plain English, religion says I AM A MISTAKE opposed to spirituality which says, I MAKE MISTAKES - a HUGE difference. That is why religious cults are always loading their membership down with rules and regulations to adhere to "or else" (fear aspect) comes into play.
There is absolutely zero wrong with spirituality, BUT religion? Buyer beware !!!
