I don't know where my son got it from but he is left handed. My dad, mom, me and my wife her parents are all right handed. I don't want my son to suffer with this handicap for the rest of his life and be made fun of at school. What should I do?

As a teacher I'm shocked and sadden for your question. Please don't make the same mistake that many narrow minded people make to force a perfectly normal and healthy child to develop a complex over being left handed. You don't know how lucky you are. Embrace this and love that little boy for what he is a beautiful miracle.

Ok. Firstly, being left handed is not something that is cured. It is accomodated. You can teach him (maybe) to be a little more ambidextrous, but if he is left handed, then he is left handed. Kids will make fun of differences. In this case it is because he is left handed. If it weren't for that it would be because he likes diagonally striped shirts or whatever.

Have patience with him. Lefties get confused a lot between the dominant side and the right side, which are the same side for most folks.

Many left handers are the result of the egg splitting after fertilization, but the right handed cell dying. The lefty is all that is left of the twins. I don't think left handedness is a hereditable genetic trait.

There are probably a bunch of websites and a few organizations for lefties. There are also some benefits from being a leftie.

it's not a handicap, you idiot. and he's not going to be made fun of at school. there is no "cure". why don't you try writing with your left hand and see how easy it is. my sister is left handed and writes just as well as a right handed person and has never been made fun of for it. what dumbass told you it was a handicap?? I read some of your other questions and I really have to ask..... where the hell do you come up with these weird *** views? are you from like one of those countries that think women are **** or something? do you make your wife wear one of those full body robe things and have a male escort when she leaves the house???

Do not try to change your sons left handedness. This is NOT a handicap. Why would anyone make fun of him at school....I'm sure that he is not the only one in his school that is left handed. It will really mess him up if you try to change it. Good Luck.

Have a great day!

A lot of people are left handed and it is not a handicap. It was probably the hand that felt the most comfortable to write with. I know lots of left handed people and I've never heard of anyone being made fun of for it.

My son is left-handed. The rest of us are right-handed. I don't think you can 'cure' left handedness. People are all wired different. You can 'force' someone to use their right hand whom is left-handed but that is not really 'curing' it. In this day and age being left handed is not a big deal because most the time there are options for left-handers too.

Well first off there is no cure for left handed people.... its also no something that needs to be cured.
#1 he won't be made fun of in school. There are so many more people that are left handed. I can use both hands equaly except writing.... something I can thank my wonderful first teacher in school that would yell at me anytime I used my left hand. There is nothing wrong with being left handed. They make scisors, baseball gloves... even guns for left handed people.
Its not a handicap. Half the pitcher on the Yankee's baseball team are left handed.... along with more than half of the reg batting order.

Left-handedness is not a disease. Your son will not suffer for the rest of his life unless you or your family make fun of him for this "disease." It's nothing kids at school make fun of.

Also, being left-handed is an indicator that he uses the right side of his brain more, which is the more creative side. For all you know, he is gifted in the arts, but you are trying to cripple him in that area by trying to make him something he's not.

lefthanded does not mean that you have a handicap. Look at all the professional athletes that we have that are lefthanded. It's only a handicap if YOU make it a handicap. So he's a little different from the rest of your family. I am the only left handed in my family, but i find that it makes you unique and different. I was never made fun of in school for being lefthanded. There are alot more to worry about happening in schools now than your child being lefthanded. Relax and just let him be himself.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that left-handedness as a handicap is a cultural issue with your family?? How sad for your child that a natural ability is considered a handicap. Maybe you can break that cultural stigma and raise your child to be proud of who he is - check out the enormous list of creative, smart, and successful people who are/were left-handed... and hope your son turns out half as good as any one of them!!!

Hi,

I think there is no wrong and not shame to be a left handed. I dont know from which country are you ? but for example in Asia country like Indonesia who really care about attitude , that we have to give things to other with right handed or taking goods form someone with right handed. The left handed also not feel any shame. So I guess it's kind of nature. or maybe your son can do left and right handed. since my friend can do that.

Left handed ppl normally more creative and smart. guess it's not shame at all.

P.S : me also left handed

Cheers!!
