When my cat's puke why does it look like poop? They have been puking more than often.?

Question

I have been noticing that my cat's have been puking more often. I don't see any hair in the puke, so I don't think it's a hair ball. The puke is dark, long, and looks like poop. I switched over to hair ball control food to see if the puking will slow down. (They are eating normal) I just started them on the new food and will see if the puking will stop. I would like to know before I spend more money at the vet! Thank you to any one who can help me! :)

it is not puke, it is a hairball. brush them more and try a hairball type of food. Such as IAMS hairball control. it may be a little more expensive but well worth not stepping on a hairball in the middle of the night; or hearing them cough one up. good luck we had 3 and it sounded like the bowels of hell at night before we switched to a food better on their sensitive tummy's. When you switch over do not switch all at once it will tear up their stomachs. Use this formula. Day 1 use 25% new 75% old type of food, day 2 & 3 use 50/50 mix day 4 75% new 25% old and day 5 100% new type. once again good luck.

Ah! That's a hairball. My cat used to have them all the time. You know how cats lick themselves clean, right? In a healthy cat, the swallowed hair should be able to pass through your cat's digestive system normally, but if she is taking in too much hair, she'll spit it up. It could be food. Do you give her wet food? If you don't, there's the possibility your cat's digestive system is too "dry" and the hair is getting stuck. Or, like in my case, wet food upset my cat's stomach and after she vomited normally, she'd throw up a hair ball as well. Try changing her wet food diet, giving her hairball control treats, and, although people say to brush her, I suggest that you don't. Not matter how sick it makes her, your cat will continue to lick her hair for the rest of her life. Brushing only loosens MORE hair for your kitty to swallow. If the problem persists, take her to the vet. Hope I helped.

Its not puke, it is a hairball. To prevent hair balls comb you cats fur a LEAST every other day. If your brave or you cat lets you like mine does, give the cat a bath. I've had my cat more than half my life, hair balls do look like poop sometimes, if it were puke you would see his food in it.

Take them to the vet. This is why-
Sometimes hairballs can get stuck in the stomach. Hairball food will not get rid of them all the time.
In order for hairball food to work, the vomiting MUST be from hair balls.
The vomit you describe sounds like it should contain hair, if it really does not, then something may be wrong.

Sometimes it's really hard to see the hair in vomit, unless you soak the vomit and rinse out the food particles and look to see if you have a nasty hair 'rope' in there.

I am not so hot on hair ball food. I'd rather see you brush your cats. It works much better...

not to worry it is a hair ball, sure call your vet but here is a way to help them get rid of the hairballs easier, but butter (or country crock) on there paws mash it in so that they have to lick it off, the oils in it helps them pass the hairballs from the other end. this is what my vet told me to do. Why haven't you taken your cat to the vet? Or at least called the vet? That is highly irresponsible of you and I'm not sure you should own a cat. Puke with no hair in it at the frequency you indicate is a bad, bad thing. Take them to the vet before your cat gets worse.
