you attend as a protestor of a debate between Stickland and Blackwell for governor of Ohio tonight. After everyone leaves, you go back to catch them leaving. the minute you get there, a policeman leaves his car & goes into the building and another gets on the phone. Your activist friend (1/2 block down...peaceably standing with a sign--it's just the 2 of you now--all you have done is stand there w/sign) is approached by security from the tv station. He shows her a paper with 3 pictures of her on it-pictures from 3 agencies (highway patrol/dept of public safety and another place) & tells her she is a known troublemaker...just out of the blue like that..looked up her picture from her standing there in the dark (9:30 PM) I'm thinking WTF--am I on a list too just for protesting and being an anti Bush activist? When did protesting & expressing your civil rights become worthy of sticking you on lists as a troublemaker. Should I keep doing it & how can I find out if I am on a list somewher

We should all be scared. Are you aware that the government can tap our phone line, monitor our e-mail and Internet use for any reason. This just went into law a couple of weeks ago. You can be arrested and held without charge and have no access to a lawyer. This is America folks, changing right before our eyes. They want us to believe that all this monitoring is to fight domestic terrorism but you and your friend are proof that they are monitoring anyone exercising their patriotic duty to dissent. Yes you should keep on voicing your opinion. The country depends on us to do so.

Ok, this is a list from the TV station (according to your story) not something the FBI or secret service keeps on file. It is a known fact that people go to protests to take photos and log them. Don't protest if you don't want people to know about it. There is nothing illegal about that list that the TV station has -- they probably compiled it from various other protestors. Just as there was nothing illegal about your friend on the sidewalk holding the sign, there was nothing illegal about the TV security mentioning to her that she is a known trouble-maker.

That’s exactly why the Bush administration is trying to destroy the US Constitution and strip Americans of the their civil and personal rights. They can declare you a traitor and throw you in jail with no explanation and no rights, even to an attorney, Then, they can keep you as long as they want. You didn’t really think the Patriot and Terrorism Acts they have created were for the benefit and security of the American people, did you?

Don't stop protesting just because someone calls you a "trouble maker". Who cares if they are on a list of being an anti Bush activist. I think it would be an honor to be on such a list.

make sure you know yr rights(look it up on ACLU website) and have a lawyer to call when things get rough DOnt talk to anyone about anytihng w/o lawyer present. Try to be ina recognized group when protesting as you are likely to be protected Take it just like your in a gang territory and you will be "messed with"unless you have your people with you and on your side.
