The flaw is not the Bible but those who interpret it.

Both the Bible and history books are flawed because they were both written by men, not deities. Men are imperfect. People forget, people leave out details, write what they know and their own take on things. One person's perspective is not another's, even when it comes to history.
Certainly had a difference of perspective in the Civil War, and any other war or conflict really. Both sides thought they were doing right. It's not until it's over and time has passed that the true "right" side can be seen.
As far as the second part of your question about how can we tell that history books aren't imaginary compilations as they were written by man, well, there's proof. You can prove that there WAS a Battle of Waterloo or that there was a real person by the name of Henry VIII. There is unrefutable proof that those events happened and those people really lived. They may not be recorded perfectly, but the physical evidence is there to prove that it happened.
You cannot prove whether or not God exists. God is a matter of faith, not reality. The Bible may likely have historical details and truths in it, but there is also a lot of faith and belief, a lot more than there is history. There's also the fact that the Bible has been around for at least two thousand years and that Latin and Greek(let alone English) were not the original languages of the Bible.
Not only have things within the Bible been lost to multiple translations, but also to the passage of time. It's like one really big, ongoing game of Telephone. It started out as one thing way back in ancient times when it was written. Now it's safe to say that the Bible as we know it is hardly the original Bible of when it was written. Period. That's the pitfalls of time and language.
And that's not counting deliberate acts of censoring and sabotage in which entire books were left out(and sometimes destroyed, both by religious councils deciding what is part of the Bible and what isn't, and by raids on cities in which they were sacked and razed to the ground, including libraries), passages were deleted, and so forth. If the Bible ever had any historical truth to it(let alone spiritual truth), it has since been lost.

The bible has mistakes because it is the word of man pretending to be God. If there is a man in cloud, then He knew that 2 of every species of living things on this planet weighs over 50 million tons and Noah would have needed an Arc a mile long , but the primitive biblical people didn't know. That's why it's in the Bible. The story of Noah's Arc is far from the truth, but we're told to believe that it's the word of God. If we all came from Adam & Eve, where did the Aborigines come from? The Bible is the words of primitive people who really didn't know what was going on. When you see Biblical movies on TV they always depict the people of those times to be just like you and me. Forget it, 99% of biblical preople were illiterate. Watch an old Montey Pithon movie called "The Life of Brian" and that's closer to the mentallity of biblical people. People who are college History Majors are told that much of written history is based on a lie.

The bible isn't exactly flawed. It is true to the point that it has been translated correctly. Many important parts were left out and some not so important parts left in according to the translators discretion. But for the most part it has the most important parts! Thus the same with history books relatively speaking. We have to deal with the version of the writer. Different writers like different witnesses to a crime all have a different perspective on the facts! True from their point of view but not the full version from some one elses!

let's see.
the bible is supposed to be a christian book, but it was edited and compiled by a pagan roman emperor (which is why it is a flawed myth.)
science books are written by scientists; a us history book is written by a us historian. (wow, now there's one major flaw in your logic/comparison).
so, here's a question:
do you buy a car built by a hairdresser (bible) or do you simply get a haircut from him (more appropriate)?
there's your answer, hon. don't let that type of logic fry your circuits. if this is too difficult to follow, have a friend draw you a picture.
THE FUNNIEST THING ABOUT ALL THIS IS THIS: when we do find flaws in history or science books, we admit them and try to correct/improve them. When flaws are discovered in the bible (and there are many) christians deny them and make up wild excuses for them. Or worse yet, simply write new versions of the bible (of which there are over a hundred). Talk about whacked-out!!!

Errr... I don't see the comparison. History books contain information about stuff that everyone knows happened. I never knew there was any doubt that Ancient Egypt existed, or that Julius Caesar existed, or that William Shakespeare and forty-some American Presidents existed. There's proof for all of that. The Bible describes events that have no proof whatsoever.

They likely are, because they're all interpretation of evidence left behind. The interpretation could be mistaken, the evidence could be false or misleading. But generally, history books at least make reference to something that can be verified.

This is a well known fact, it is post modernism....."history is the historian"...history is made up of the writer's objectives and biases.....like Winstom Churchill said: "History will be kind to me as i intend to write it".
