Do you mean that they are stepping away from the world's ways by living separately or that they are literally trying to leave Earth? The end goal of Christianity is to live in heaven, so living in a way that keeps them right with God is what drives them to shun the ways of the world and seek a better place in their afterlife.

in the sense that most of us really wants to remain here longer than necessary I think yes. There are many ways this is attempted. Finding out what is lacking and filling it up is one such effort. Like a man in jail we attempt to get our time served ASAP, and yet do it in an honorable way.
