PS: I didn't mean to act like a child, I just didn't know how to act anymore to make people understand that a) it's not true that it never goes away in all cases and b) how it hurts if people tell you that, while it's not even necessarly true!

Schizophrenia doesn't go away, but you might not have schizophrenia. Seeking a second opinion can't hurt, so you might want to do that. I assume you told your current doctor about the symptoms you had while psychotic, or that she read any notes that your previous providers wrote. She could be accurate without seeing an episode for herself. You sound similar to me--I had insight when I was getting sick, was diagnosed with psychosis NOS, then finally diagnosed with schizophrenia after a year or so. My psychiatrist is involved with an early intervention team that I saw, but I still see her because she is very good at what she does...She does early intervention and continued treatment, Some people stop having episodes after a couple of years or they might have 'simple schizophrenia' from now on. Just be careful, because if you stop treatment and do have schizophrenia, you could have another episode...the more episodes you have, the more your brain has to recover. The brain can't recover 100% from an episode. Good luck.

Schizophrenia NEVER goes away and if you say otherwise you're just WRONG WRONG WRONG. It's a permanent condition like bipolarism. If your doctors told you to only take the meds when *you* *think* you need them you need to see better doctors.

EDIT: Just because a source claims to be official, licensed, or have a degree doesn't make them right. You need to take your medication regularly or you'll never see any improvement on your condition. Schizophrenia isn't like a cold, where you take some cough syrup and everything is ok. Schizophrenia lasts a lifetime and requires constant vigilance from you, your doctors, your friends and your family for the highest quality of life you can have.

Second EDIT: If it 'goes away' then you most likely never had it to start with, you were probably mis-diagnosed. This happens ALL THE TIME. Doctors are quick to diagnose schizophrenia, bipolar, and border-line personality disorder because they are the most broadly defined mental conditions. Many of their symptoms overlap with multiple other mental disorders. But again, true schizophrenia NEVER 'goes away'.

Recovery is not the same thing as cured. Alcoholics can recover, they remain alcoholics for life. Schizophrenia has many different treatments, as it is tailored for the person and the underlying cause of the disorder. It doesn't go away, the doctors and the patient are just able to find means to control the worst of the symptoms and the person is able to function at some level in society. The schizophrenic patient recovers enough to leave the hospital in a more stable condition that they arrive in, that is true, but it is because of the treatment they recieve while hospitalized. Most leave, not because they are "cured", but because the insurance runs out, or the patient decides to leave on their own. They get well enough to function, and are legally entitled to leave of their own accord. You have a constitutional right to suffer a mental illness, and not to treat it with medications as you decide. Unless you become a threat to yourself or others, you remain in control, and as you wish- outside of a hospital setting. You are not compelled to take your medications at all. As an adult, you have that right. The medical profession merely provides the tools you need to aid in recovery, in the form of the medications. Like it or not, schizophrenia is not a curable disease, merely one that can be recovered from. If you want to recover, you will use whatever tools are available to you to use. If you don't, you won't. It's your right, your decision, and you that suffers the consequences.

Never saw any pills that said they cure any percentage of the people taking them and it' not known to be one of the many side effects.
People who promote these things generally figure they know it all cause they read a few paragraphs, generally skipping words they don;t understand such as those found in the list of side effects. They generally scare people to take their meds and predict doom for them if they stop without even knowing the withdrawal of the addiction of these nerve poisons nerve function controlling poisons causes symptoms of the disease that the meds treat. The body has to compensate for the removal of the drug that was compromizing its own normal function. It;s the people who think they know but don;t actually take the drug themselves that promote its use.

Healing comes from within.

Schizophrenia can be cured or at least you can heal or mend yourself accept it a lot easier than recover from damage that may be permanent resulting from side effects of the medication
that can't be cured like heart failure and diabetes or worse.

Armchair physicians, and last i heard giving prescription drugs without consent is illegal, and if you want the highest quality of life break free from the nags if you can, they watch too much television and associate schizophrenia with every evil in the world, and don't tell anyone you have it,because the vast majority knows nothing about it

Cases like your comments just show how little mankind knows about medicine.

There are the "averages" and most people would like to positivately beat the averages. and indeed many do.

Dr. Berney Seagal gives hope and interesting stories about Cancer patients who beat the odds and get better. - often we don't know exactly who, or why, but it revolves around a positive outlook.

I wish you well.

One good rule in life is never to say "never" because you'll almost certainly be proved wrong eventually and live to regret it. Keeping your mind open to possibility is the best policy.
