i did this art paintin in a book i found on Matisse and the painting was not by him. the painting depicted jesus with people in the background. it had more of a yellowish tone to the whole painting. does anyone know what its called? it was fauvism art.

By Rouault maybe? Georges Rouault (1871 -1958 ).

He went through a period of focusing on religious subjects. It's not easy to get photos of the paintings online, but he painted quite a few with titles like:

Christ on the Cross

Crucifixion: Do you love one another?

Yellowish tone? Hmm...interesting if this is not the effect of oxidation and aging of the paint...the artist had a point with that choice of "yellow" like "yellow journalism" or "yellow belly?"

It sounds like Gauguin (not a Fauvist).
