same reason humans have an appendix.
fyi -- the bible has nothing to do with any god. it is a flawed, man-made compilation of silly cult stories.

Perhaps its the scale of meaning we are confused by...perhaps the chosen people are not what we think they are i.e. the Israelites..Could God have really meant Human beings..And that What we call Aliens are the other Creations...Oh well just thought Id mention something before I go to bed
And yes the planets at least in our solar system is mentioned in the bible....The heavenly waters divided, scientists know that each planet has had water ..there is supposed to be a much larger planet in a much wider orbit which is the same one that smashed into another and as is said divided our beautiful solar sytem into smaller or as we see them the main planets around us
One could understand the mindset of the scribes who contributed to the holy books .What words of that day could be used to describe such events..Jesus said (spaceman some might say)..There is so much we could see but is too great for us to understand..and could make some go mad...sorry would like to type in more detail..but Ive got to sleep....
by the way that big planet is coming round again ...nite all..

i like this question and the way people are comparing other planets to things on the Earth like the sea and cabbage patch dolls. The point is you just can't comprehend the sheer size of the universe and the tiny little Earth floating around in it is so completely insignificant when there are trillions and trillions of other planets. I'm sure the believers will leave it 'God has his plan' and that will be that. an easy way out

Okay you're gonna have to specify how making planets means God made mistakes?
God made the ocean with sea water in it, humans can't drink salt water does that mean he made a mistake? No it does not.
Perhaps because we don't know enough about outer spaec to answer that question yet.

Yes, in fact it talks about the workings of the solar system and how the planets revolve around the Sun. This is long before the modern day scientist discovered it workings. So how would we know, what they knew?

God made other planets to show us how great and powerful He is. Something like the sun or Jupiter or Earth or any other created thing is so perfect and detailed that man should be in awe of their creator. Did you know that the outer rings of Jupiter are braided. That couldn't have been chance. I don't understand how people can look around them and not be filled with questions of who their creator is.

They are there for us to explore, because us humans are naturally curious. That is a paraphrase from an interview with a scientist in Lee Strobels book "The Case for a Creator".

Not everyone who believes in God is a fundamentalist Christian, I believe in God but I also believe there is unlimited possibilities for the other planets in the universe. To believe we are the only life in an almost infinite universe is not only illogical, it is actually quite arrogant of us.

Kind of funny how like, NO ONE can answer this question. And we have an appendix to break down bacterias from eating raw meat. It used to be a lot bigger, but now that humans cook their meat before eating it, and over many eons of evolution, the appendix has shrunken down to the mere size it is now.
Another piece of evidence that evolution is real.
Blessed be.
