I don't get it.
Recently, however, I overheard my 17-yo son try this one. (He didn't know I was there.)
He: "Hey, those are nice pants."
She: "Thanks!"

According to my friend John the best pick up line is, "Do I smell like eggs?" Unfortunately I think it only works on absurdists.
To answer your question it all just depends on how you say it. If you are Anthony Hopkins I'd believe it. It's all about presentation. Just like models like good in target clothing people with charisma can pull off pick up line a little too long and slightly quirky.

I liked it right into the point it said purple skirt (Had a bad experience with a skirt that wasnt originally purple but now it is). But other than that it was ok.....

yeah, if women can remember every bit of a pick up line from a guy then you know it works. a pick up line that is never thought of after the fact is a lame one. give applaud to the guy that said this pickup line to your friend because she remembered it.
