Absolutely, it's a blast...and it can be scary as hell!! It's more work than people think due to the constant training, but worth it in the long run. My partner and I worked for 6 years together...everyday!! Home and work he was always with me. It is a huge responsibility, yet worth every second. We had to put him to sleep due to his vision, and it was a horrible thing. We use the Belgian Malinois, instead of the German Shepard, simply due to them being a little more agile, and a little meaner with nasty viciousness. Good Luck and have a great time with the K-9 division.....it's the most unique job in the department. Remember one thing though...they are not pets.

If you want to be a cop just because you like Shepherds, you're better off going into veterinary school or a K9 training academy.

No, it is not fun and games. You have to train more than a regular patrol officer. They don't just assign a dog to you for use as a pet. This dog is your partner, so you train together at a regular secheduled time
