i have a 92 ranger. it had same issue. try replacing brake light switch first. then if all else fails get under the rear end andf check the wiring. if it is old and messed up looking rewire it.

Sounds like the tail light switch is defective. It must have gotton hot some time in the past and fuesed the connection inside the switch.
here is how to find out if it is the switch.
Remove the bottom panel from the dash so you can get at the plug.
Follow the wires from the switch and unlpug it. If the lights now go off, just replace the switch.
If not the the wires are fused in the dash and will require more work.

i own a repair shop,and make sure its just The park lights ,that's staying on,if it is you need a new light switch,i have seen them do this before,but also the brake light switch will go bad ,.and stick in the on position,and cause this try pulling the fuse for the brake lights and see if it goes off and if it does you need a new brake light switch,if not id replace the headlight switch on it ,good luck i hope this help,s.

tail lights or brake lights? if its the brake light then id say its the brake light switch. if it the tail light then it could be several things. short to ground or a bad switch..
