I'd go with the 9x13 because the layer cake is actually 2 pieces of cake stacked together so when you cut it you get only 1/2 the surface area. Also, you can cut small squares in a 9x13 but when you cut a 2 layer cake in small pieces, the pieces would just want to tip over and not look so hot.

It depends on the size of the layers, but the standard 9 in layer cake would give you less pieces than the 9 by 13. The pieces would just be smaller with the 9 by 13. My company always goes with the 9 by 13 when they are having b-day parties for an office member. That way everyone gets a piece.

I would say a 9x13 because you can cut it into as many squares as you want to (just modify the size to as many pieces as you want) whereas with a layer cake you can't get that many unless you cut really thin slices.

9X13 would be the easiest to cut into many pieces as it has a larger area. Good luck on your baking.
