Today I read "Most do not return to their prior state of mental function. Yet several long-term studies reveal that about one-half to two-thirds of people with schizophrenia significantly improve or recover, some completely". A couple years ago that was 20 to 30 percent that recover, and before they even said in the hospital that "I will have to take the meds for the rest of my life".

I have always thought that I am not mentally ill. I have always thought that someone makes those voices that were controlling my thoughts and making comments to them.

Don't you think it is entirely possible that I never was "schizophrenic", but just a political prisoner, and that the leaders of society have decided, in the last couple of years, that they will "incarcerate people in that mental jail" (that it is...both the "illness" with the "voices" but also the meds) over less time now than before? Like, it's not necessary to f*** up their entire lives, 10 years is enough?

sometimes its stress related to noise pollution..mediation can help but sometimes I wonder about school and media muzak etc..being a deliberate rerouting of our poor brains..so that all logic is bypassed until 1 and 1 is 2 is just memorized ..not founded in logic.

Well at least you have a second opinion.

The way i figure it if the meds don;t work then why take them.
If years of taking them don't help any then they probably are not helpful, if they don't harm you then they are not harmful.

If they help you and harm you which accumulates more.

Withdrawal symptoms come from stopping meds as your body compensates for the neuroleptics, the withdrawal symptoms mimmick the symptoms the drugs treat.

Both the withdrawal symptoms and actual damage done to organs and systems come only from the medication, and are especially an extra burden to someone who has symptoms of disease and doesn;t particularly want more, because, to feel well and be healthy they need their own neurotransmitter systems to generate not only their thought functions but the entire functions of the body that control their homeostasis and general health with greater immune systems ability to be able to better deal with the symptoms of disease.

Think of the word neuroleptic , it's another anti type word it means nerve poison in latin. The theory seems to be that if you kill the nerve it stops the source of the pain, no pain no problems.

In this case the nerve is the brain and shutting it down shuts down the entire body. It's too bad it doesn't work that way so if your car overheated you could simply bend the temperature guage so that it wouldn;t indicate a problem.

I heard of a study once of people and antipsychotics or neuroleptics over a ten year history, they discovered 39 out of 88 or 44% of the people taking these for ten years was dead! most from general medical decline and pulmonary failure. I think the author was waddington when searching neuroleptics and life expectancy.

If studies did not show that people get better with medication, then there would be less faith in the medication. But if you got better instantly, there wouldn't be much work for doctors. They need you to be crazy.

My friend, you are not a political prisoner. No one can manipulate the voices in your head. You are in control of them, you alone. You alone can make them go away if you allow yourself to heal. First you must admit that they aren't real, and that they are a result of the confusion in your own brain. You must stop trying to blame a non-tangible "politician". Your healing time will depend on the time it takes you decide you want to see the real problem that lies beneathe. This is the reason for your doctor's role. It takes time.

I agree with you. A study was done about schizophrenia some years ago now (in USA), where a number of doctors got themselves admitted to a mental hospital simply by saying they had "voices" in their heads. Of course they were put on medications etc and had a terrible time trying to be released.
The other patients knew they were fakes though.

You were probably never a schizophrenic any way, It is simply a way to make people behave in a certain way.

If you believe that the voices are real and that you are a political prisoner, you have the classic symptoms of schizophrenia. Do not stop taking the medicine. You need it.

Dear loony_liz,

Well...
Let me ask you this:

Do you think that it is possible that, slowly, and over time, all the securities (within your being) regarding yourself not conforming to every single social construct that "civilized society" has imposed on us, just simply got beaten down by those 'constructs' that we have to live by in order to fit in and, basically just to feel at ease while we go through our lives?

Think back. Were you maybe feeling a little guilty for little pleasures that you indulged in when you knew that the 'right' thing for you at the time was maybe not to indulge? Or the 'right' thing by society's standards? But indulging gave you a sense of satiation in knowing that you got away with something, letting you feel a bit more superior or luckier or smarter?

(The human condition has a dire, innate need to excel.)

And then you started wondering: well, maybe someone did see me sneak that chocolate bar, or joint, or time for yourself, or movie with a friend, or date, or whatever?

And then you started hearing double entendres (double meanings/hidden messages) in what anyone or anything was saying? Because you started looking for any sign at all that they might know what you did? And they were trying to tell you that they know what you've been doing and that they're trying to suggest very suttlely (by the hidden meaning) that you do 'the right thing'?

And then this particular manifestation of paranoia just grew harder and harder and deeper and deeper as you just simply assumed that every little coincidence was not simply a coincidence, but a full-on suggestion to you?

And then you started attaching meaning to any old sounds around, even when people were not there? Because whatever body - whoever is behind this 'trying to suggest to you to do 'the right thing'' must have set up serious hidden cameras so that they can follow your moves and see whether or not you're going to accept their 'help'?

And then your guilt got intensified with thinking of all the resources they're spending to try to rehabilitate your person?

And then you wondered if it just might be by God as there just are too many coincidences for it to be by the government or some wealthy body or agency?

Now, this is all based on the possibility that you have been experiencing some kind or manifestation (specific and respective to you) of 'schizophrenia'.

Well, this is what happened to me.

Last year for about 6 months. And at one point I was guided to a travel agency so I thought about what it is I should do there, and I got a ticket to see my Mom overseas as her health is failing and I have some guilt surrounding that.
(Wherever I was guided to, I was there to figure out what the 'right' thing was supposed to be.)

Now two days before my trip I had all this anxiety over the flight, thinking about what my situation might do to my Mom's health. So, I guess I just made myself go against everything I felt that I knew about what was going on, and I just tried to believe what all my friends around me was saying - because my Mom just couldn't see me in that state!
Somehow, I got out of it. Just thinking about my Mom.

And there, back overseas, in this completely different country with completely different weather and everything, I didn't get messages out of sounds or anything. And I slept for more than just 3hrs a night.
I was finally able to turn off my brain, I guess.

I was still really, really moody though - my highs would switch to lows and vice versa really fast. But I wasn't in that 'schizophrenic' state that I was in before.

I believe that I still have some kind of chemical imbalance in my brain right now, but I have never even seen a doctor about anti-depressants or treatment.

Fear, I guess.

Well, good luck.
Really.

Just try to give the benefit to the doubt.
Each person has a different reason why they are where they are, but just try to negate what you've been believing for however long it's been for you. (Remember, this is all dependant on the basis that you actually are/have been experiencing a manner of 'schizophrenia'.)
Just try.

Life is short, my friend

Those "voices" were just the dryer. Sometimes it's the fan. Air conditioners sound like voices too. Put some music on. It blocks that stuff out pretty well.
